WHO: Anna, Johan & the monster
WHEN: the night after her & Crowley's somewhat srs talk
WHERE: random street in NYC
WHAT: Anna gets attacked, Johan draws blood
RATING: rated R
Anna wasn't exactly afraid to be out walking by herself. She wasn't the most powerful creature that had been brought to Ridgeway, but she was among the top five. For the most part she was taking her cues from Gabriel. What he could handle pretty much set up Anna's litmus test, she saw what Gabriel could manage and kept a step back from that. Well, and kept herself away from most of the worst of the messes. She didn't get involved with Petersen or the trying to escape plans, or all the drama. She couldn't avoid the Cas/Dean/Jo drama, but everything else was below her radar. Still, she felt more or less safe walking around alone. Not enough to go without Johan, who obviously could sense whatever it was, but enough not to bother worrying about getting attacked.
Obviously the wrong move. The issues between her and Crowley had her irritated to put it mildly. They were dancing dangerously close to turning their little arrangement into an actual relationship. And she was really not okay with that. So she went out, and thankfully Johan followed... or maybe she wasn't thankful about it. Johan following her meant Crowley wanted him to, which was just more issues there. Him trying to protect her, trying to guard his assets or whatever. Underestimating her.
She turned a corner and Michael was there suddenly. She knew it wasn't him. She could sense that it wasn't him. But it was. It was Michael enough. There was enough power there, enough of Michael's self-righteous fury, that Anna was terrified. Frozen stiff with Johan about a block behind her trying to pretend to be hiding from her. There wasn't time to react. It was a split second. There was a bright light, there was her own Grace pulling to the surface and stretching to fill the street. And then suddenly there was pain. It started at the tips of her wings and burnt all the way up to her shoulder blades. She didn't stay conscious that long. By the time the pain hit the joint of her wing, she was knocked out.
She didn't see Johan leap over her body. Didn't see the HellHound come in contact with The Thing that had been terrifying everyone in New York City for weeks. It drew blood, but Anna was already unconscious and had no idea. After a small scuffle, It took off. Anna was bleeding on the concrete for longer than she should have been.
And then suddenly she wasn't. Suddenly she woke up with a scream. Absolute agony rushing through her back, down her spine, and she cringed in a way that she never thought she'd uncurl from. It was the worst pain she'd ever felt - worse than ripping her Grace out, worse than getting her Grace back, maybe it was as bad as the real Michael really burning her up but she hadn't lived that yet and couldn't imagine anything worse than what she was feeling right now.
