WHO: Benjy Fenwick and Alastair Selwyn
WHAT: Definitely not boyfriending
WHEN: Sunday, Oct 11; late afternoon
WHERE: Alastair's
RATING|STATUS: TBD | In progress
The first four days, Benjy had been angry and focused. He knew his parents had been murdered, and though he'd been immediately shut out of the investigation into their deaths (perhaps rightfully so), he'd still had things to do. He hadn't quite been in a state of denial, he knew they were gone, he just hadn't let himself really acknowledge it either. He made phone calls to relatives, took care of his brother, began the process of making plans for the funeral, all while denying his feelings. As long as there were things to be done, he couldn't break down. And then his aunt took over the funeral arrangements because he didn't really know what he was doing. And the solicitor wanted to talk about the house. And Edgar didn't want to let him work. Nothing left to do but spiral, he'd spiraled right down into the bottom of a bottle at his ex-boyfriend's place. Once that happened, Benjy found it nearly impossible to pick himself back up out of it. So he hadn't. He barely even tried. He just stayed at Alastair's flat and waited for him to make him leave--and so far he hadn't. On the one hand, he appreciated the care, knowing that it would be much worse for him if he were alone, but on the other, it wasn't going to last, and that knowledge hurt as well. Now that the funeral itself was over, Benjy was afraid the time had come, but again his ex surprised him and took him back to the flat when he needed to leave. Shedding his suit jacket and gripping it in his hands, Benjy realized this was the most time he'd spent with anyone since their breakup. And while he definitely needed it, it also brought so much back. Mostly it just reminded him that he'd had what he wanted but hadn't been enough to keep it. "Thank you for being there." |
