Who Alastair & Xavier Selwyn
Where Xavier's study
What Talking
When After Odette's funeral
Rating idk they'll probably talk about death a lot
The service had been fine, but Alastair still wished there had been no service at all. He'd given himself one job--a single aim when he joined the Death Eaters: keep his sisters safe. He'd failed. Miserably at that. Odette was dead and Margaux was basically flirting with death, really to slap him down if he even suggested she remove herself from the werewolf's life. Every day he was reminded of what an awful mistake it was to join the Death Eaters. He wished he never had. Contributing to the movement had done too much harm to be worth it, even if Odette were still alive. He could see that now. The only reason he was still there had been next to him through the service, utterly stone faced. Xavier was hard to read. He always had been, even for his own child, but Alastair knew what that meant this time. He could see the subtle changes in his father's face when people spoke and interpret the meaning with ease. He saw the way his features hardened when his mother's family spoke and knew exactly what happened when his father was suddenly no longer there. Alastair managed to slip away from them not long after, moving toward the upstairs study where he knew his father would be with a bottle of his drink of choice. It had always been his drink of choice. The reason for the drinking was so painfully clear now. The lies, the hiding, Alastair knew he couldn't bear it. He was certain he, too, would go mad if he chose to live the way Xavier did. While Alastair resented the fact that Xavier was his sole reason for joining the Death Eaters, he knew it wasn't solely his father to blame for it. As Alastair appeared in the doorway, he got a good look at his father. He leaned against the frame, crossing his arms over his chest as he tried to think of something to say. He didn't have a plan when he went upstairs, and now he was still without one, instead choosing to just observe. Perhaps that would do for now until Xavier acknowledge him. |
