While she had an idea of what actually having a child would be like, the real thing couldn't exactly compare. In no world could any woman prepare themselves for the process, but once it started, there was no going back. Yes, it bloody hurt. At times, Aileas was almost positive she couldn't do it, and screamed such several times. There also might have been a moment where she almost broke Dean's hand from squeezing it so hard. There was also a vague memory of telling the doctor she was going to tear his eyes out with her fingernails if he didn't stop telling her to push when she was already pushing. But once she heard his cry, a kind of relief washed over her that took more than just a few minutes to process.
And then he was there, in her arms, covered in a bit of gunk, wrinkly and new. For a moment, Aileas was overwhelmed with how she could suddenly love something so much. She knew she loved Matthew before holding him, she would have done anything for that baby in her womb. But holding him now, it only grew. How were hearts capable of holding all of this emotion? Wrapping her arms around him, Aileas cried before they eventually took him away to have Dean cut his cord and clean him, while she finished the rest of the beautiful but entirely disgusting process that having a child was. Eventually, in the midst of chaos, she managed to get him to latch for long enough to satiate his crying, but soon after she was given a moment to finally doze off and rest as the rest of the world flurried by.
When she awoke, the room was quieter, though she could hear the steady breathing of her husband and noticed the small cradle sitting next to her bed. Groaning a bit in discomfort, Aileas used her arms to pull herself up into a half sitting position as she looked over and smiled at the half asleep little bundle. "Sorry about your hand," she teased softly, looking at Dean with a small smile. Looking down, her eyes wet with happy tears once more as she brushed them away, reaching out to brush her finger over Matthew's tuft of impossibly dark hair. "Have you ever seen anything so perfect?"
