That promise of 'someday' was enough for now. Maria wasn't as naive as she knew she sometimes came across. If anything the lack of information tended to point towards things, or how people treated her. As someone who had to learn early on how to please people so that they would leave her alone, or really, just for her own survival, it taught her how to read people. So, she knew that she would have to learn more and more about this as time went on. Even if she went and did it on her own, eventually.
It was important to her that she do what she could to understand. She very much wanted to understand her boyfriend's heritage and family history. She loved them all so much that she saw it as a disservice if she didn't act on that genuine interest. She knew how people sometimes looked at them, so she felt like knowledge was one of the tools that she could have in her box. So she took what she could get right now and that 'someday' felt like it would be an actual someday. Not just a brush off. That one day, they'd get there and for now, that was enough.
As Blaise started to speak she studied his face, that smile, a slightly puzzled expression started to form on her face though. Strangers might not have noticed but she knew that Blaise knew her well enough to see it. Being sweet was not uncommon, far from it. But she had to wonder where this was coming from. She could admit that sometimes she wondered if they were going to work out once the world started to get better. But she worried more that he'd grow bored with her, or that he'd find someone better, less damaged. These were also things that she kept to herself because one look from him when he smiled at her was enough to tell her what she'd known for a while. They were in this together for a long, long time.
Maria looked into his warm eyes touched by how sweet he was being right now. It was far from an uncommon thing, but these little gestures never failed to mean so much to her. Even all these years later, with all of the progress, they still meant so much. "There's no one I'd rather be here with too." she openly admitted. She knew that sometimes they were really opposites of each other, but she liked to think that made them balance. They brought out the best in each other, and she couldn't be more thankful for the man standing beside her right now. "I never thought I'd have a chance to be this happy like this. I'm so thrilled that you showed me otherwise." Maria figured she'd add since they were having a moment.
