quiet home garden: alyssa & damian
[Like a roving gambler, she escaped into darkness. The once upon a goddess wore hospital garb, the worn-down felt of passed down slippers on her feet, badly trodden with filth and compost. The white and long sleeved thermal of summer impracticality was her shirt, meant to conceal IV scabs and that single hospital bracelet jangling silently on her wrist. Her pants were pajama-striped, concentration camp monochrome with a tie that knotted hopelessly around her pointy hips. The goddess sat in the dirt, playing with a twig. The garden was small, a place where they allowed patients to pretend they were gardeners… which meant that mostly the thing was a mess and overly grown.
The strong one said that he was coming, but even if he didn't, that was okay. The twig she was digging with gave her thumb a splinter, and Alyssa dug it loose with the pointed edge of her teeth. She was humming the Beatles while she waited, although she didn't know who the Beatles were. Who shot Lennon, strong man, could you tell her that too? Let me take you down... to strawberry fields... where nothing is real... ]
