Re: #15: Juliet & Claire
The blasts stopped trailing them as soon as they crossed the stream, even the shower of dirt and wood couldn't pass the water. It was odd, sure, but it followed the direction of the evening well. She didn't notice any issues with Juliet until they pulled into the eerie silence that surrounded the cabin. The only sounds came from their breathing, and shuffled steps that hurried across what was once lush green grass but now dried and crispy under stomps of boots.
Claire peeled off of Juliet's shoulder when they got to the door, holding herself up with all the strength that adrenaline grants. Unlocked and easily opened, she wasted no time ushering her partner inside the cramped cabin. The interior had been designed for one person to be there, and merely only as a shelter from the elements. No luxuries like a chair or anything. A place to sleep, a supply cabinet, and a wood-burning stove/heater. Claire rather hoped it had been empty for a while, because if someone actually lived there, it would be very depressing. Better than the street, but not by much. The light continued to flash outside, but it turned into the far-off and less threatening roll of lightning across the sky that lit up the tiny room through the one window that there was.
Gloved hand pointed at the cot which passed for a bed in the abandoned little shack, "Lay back. Rest. Arms over your head." Not a request, Juliet. An order, with the surety of tone from a woman that had obviously given quite a few in her life. Claire peered out the window to ensure they weren't being followed, or that the impending blast wasn't coming, and once she was content enough with the safety of the location, she leaned back against the door. What strength she gained from adrenaline slowly melted out of her, and Claire slid down the rough wood gradually until her ass hit the floor. "Oh," her eyes caught the blood on her shirt, and she was absolutely not surprised. She pulled her jacket into her lap and started to dig through pockets to find her first-aid supplies. "We'll need to get back to town. People could be in trouble." Like they weren't.
