WHO. Draco Malfoy and Ron Weasley
WHERE. Muggle London
WHEN. Morning, 10th October 2005.
WHAT. Ron wants to find a muggle chess set for his collection. He spots a familiar face.
STATUS. Closed/Ongoing
As a boy in school, back when Ron had only known Harry and Hermione for a few short months without knowing all that would befall him in life, his new friends had mentioned that the chess sets they'd grown up with hadn't moved on their own. The idea of muggle chess sets had seemed entirely boring and lacklustre to Ron at the time. Now, as someone who'd since been all over the world and had, at times, needed to practice his skill around muggles, it had come to his attention that he could probably do with one. Stepping out into Muggle London, Ron's nose crinkled at the smell of their cars and the overall pollution. Black snot for me when I got home, he thought with a grimace. As he neared the shop Hermione had told him about, an old toy shop called Jaques, Ron found his attention drifting as it so often did. Particularly these days since the war, when there was so much new to worry about. About to step into the shop, a shock of bright blond hair across the road caught his eye. It wasn't like Ron had ever had a thing for blondes. Well, there was Fleur, but he'd outgrown that. And there was Fleur's little sister. But he steadfastly ignored that. No, in the sea of brunettes and in the early morning of people rushing about to work, the blond had somehow managed to stand out. And then Ron had kept looking because blokes were something new to look at for him. And then Ron kept looking, his brow knitting together because he could have sworn that the bloke in the tatty clothes looked familiar. Like Malfoy. But it couldn't actually be him, could it? His goal of owning a muggle chess set forgotten, Ron turned on his heels and crossed the road. It might not be him. But years of stalking Malfoy around the castle with Harry made this not seem that weird. After all, this was the weasel who'd pretty much been responsible for almost killing Ron off in his sixth year at school. The one who'd helped Death Eaters achieve their aims, the one who'd been one himself. And if it was him, how could following him really be wrong? |
