Torrie isn't naive enough to think that those cookies were the only thing in her brothers bag, so the small army of cans that's developing on her table is neither a surprise nor is it unwelcome. The stiff, coiled angles of his shoulders tells her as much as his words do; her brother is frustrated. He's a doer, she's known that since they were young. "Are you screening people?" she asks before another cookie gets popped into her mouth. She could eat the entire box and not feel repentive about the gluttony of it. "Is there even a fucking suspect list?" Torrie's own irritation for her brother's sake bleeds right on through with the curse. UMCB was always safe, Solomon and his men made sure of that, so the idea that what's been going on could put big question marks about his capabilities in the minds of the shelter residents doesn't sit well with her. She knows he could pack his bags any day and move on, but there is no one in her mind that could lead as successfully as he has.
"You're safe though." It has crossed her mind that he might not be, but Sol doesn't match the rest of the victims just for the sheer fact that he's male. Torrie hesitates a minute, shifts on the bed, and it's with effort that she asks her next question, her voice softening around the edges when she asks, "Is Lita?" It's a bridge that was burned to smolders because of Torrie's own weaknesses, but that doesn't erase the small part of her heart that the doctor occupied. Lita was one of her only friends at UMCB, likely her best friend there, aside from Sol. Just because they haven't spoken, because their friendship fell apart in a spectacular way doesn't erase or negate her concern.
There is not a shred of doubt in her that thinks her brother will sugar coat the answer to her questions. It wouldn't be the first time she's asked about Lita since she's left the hospital. Leaning forward, elbows on knees, Torrie tips the box in Solomon's direction, offering one of her precious cookies to him. There's another box unopened that she'll save as long as she can.
