Ezra opened his mouth to protest again, but then the word 'please' hit his ears, and he softened, and nodded. "Okay," he said, walking closer to the wall, so he could catch the bag.
He was a little overwhelmed. He recognized that it really said whole worlds about him, it said everything. It spoke volumes about how isolated he was, how lonely, how broken. It screamed to the sky about the kinds of experiences he'd had with people since the fall of the world.
"Can I do something to repay you?" he asked, looking like he was desperate to find something - which was true. There was no such thing as something for nothing in this world, even less than it had been before. He didn't like the idea of her being so kind, and getting nothing back.
"I could find something for you. Anything you want. Something you miss from back then, maybe?"
