When she said that everything was okay, he nodded, accepting the answer. That was good. Though he was abruptly aware that they could be interrupted, and that could still get her into trouble.
But he didn't leave, because some broken part of him was finding this soothing. Like if he could just keep up with it for a while, something would ease in him. It was a ridiculous idea, of course, but he was still there.
"You're welcome," he told her. "And glad you like it," he added, with a faint smile. He'd never met another Ezra either, even if he'd met a ton of Emilie's.
He wound up blinking as he processed the idea of her giving him something. "But--" he started. "You should keep that, you never know when supplies will run out..." he protested, even if water seemed like a heaven sent thing, and the snacks sounded amazing. He also looked shocked and confused at her kindness, unsure how to react to such things.
