He regretted whatever it was he said that made her look nervous. It hadn't been his intention. But he guessed, that was just how it was. He didn't think that he'd ever made a single thing better in his entire life by opening his mouth. It was why he mainly stayed quiet, or said as little as he could. Well, that and it had become a defense mechanism.
He got another ghost of a smile when she said she knew 'sorry' didn't help. "It doesn't, but thank you anyway. It's nice to hear," he told her. He meant it. It was nice. Dealing with mainly crazy, savage people for what felt like forever now made even small kindnesses in his direction feel like big gestures. He appreciated even just the sound of it.
When she said the last, he shook his head. "I don't want to get you into trouble," he told her. "And I'm pretty sure if you put in a good word for some random ex-ghoul you just met, someone would be giving you a talking to. Thank you, though. It...it means more than you could realize."
