Ezra took that in, then shook his head. "It's not dumb kid stuff," he told her, trying to clear his throat to get the scratch out of it, but it didn't work. It just started a little coughing fit that he had to wrestle under control and he finished off the last swallow of water in the canteen he had.
"I mean, you can't trust people. But it's kind of nice to know that you still have the ability and desire to," he added. Ezra didn't trust anyone anymore. Not even Emilie. She'd proven time and again that she couldn't be trusted one little bit, it had just taken him too long to work that out.
"Then I don't know. Maybe in there, you can trust people. I wouldn't recommend coming out here." Out here wasn't a place for anyone, really. Especially not young girls who could still try and trust anyone.
He sat up a little bit, and looked at her with sympathy. "I'm sorry to hear that," he told her. Then opted to share a little, answering her question at the same time. "My twin sister's a junkie, slowly killing herself. And she's so far gone I don't think she's really her anymore, she's just Crazy, walking around in her body." He looked down. "She's the only thing that mattered to me anymore, and I've been losing her by shreds ever since she discovered Wash."
