"Nothing," he agreed quietly. Zombies were normal. Showering irregularly was normal. But murdering innocent young women in cold blood was cowardly and wrong, and even under their circumstances when a lot of rules went out the window, it was simply inexcusable. Josh actually did manage to smile when Olivia slipped one of her hands underneath his. She felt warm, familiar, even though their reason for meeting like this was enough to send a cold shiver down anyone's spine.
Before Josh realized what he was doing, he slid his free hand up to her cheek and stroked gently with his thumb. The single act felt almost more intimate than all the times they'd hooked up in college. Maybe because there was more at stake. Maybe because Josh felt the need to protect her more than ever. He chose to ignore comment about his docile nature that already made him an anomaly among his brothers, and focused on continuing to comfort her, instead. Turns out bedside manner training came in handy in a lot of different situations. "You don't have to apologize for this. It's not your fault, and there was nothing you could have done. We're going to catch this guy, okay? And when we do, he's never going to be able to hurt anyone ever again." He said, no doubt in his mind that this sick bastard was going to pay. "Not gonna let anyone hurt you."
Sensing that Olivia might need more than a shoulder rub, Josh closed the gap between them and hugged her, hoping he hadn't spooked her too much by being so forward.
