Who: Bishop Coldiron and Violet Holladay
Where: The Coldiron/Dolan Home
What: Bishop interviews Violet about what happened on September 8th.
When: October 3rd, 2019 - Early Evening
[Bishop and Violet are seated in the living room and while he has a notepad in hand, it’s clear he plans on making this as informal as possible.] BISHOP: Thanks darlin’ for being willing to sit down and talk about this, I know it can’t be easy reliving the events of that day. [he offers her an encouraging smile.] Whenever you’re ready could you tell me about where you were during the events of September 8th? VIOLET: No, it's alright, I know they need to know things. [she’s glad it's Bishop doing the interview, since with anyone else it might have felt awkward.] I was at Walker’s, doing some shopping with Ryan. We were split up to cover more ground and get out of there quicker. Tag team shopping, I guess. BISHOP: [he nods while Violet speaks, jotting down quick notes thus far.] Was there anything strange about Walker’s that day? Anyone who might have seemed off somehow? VIOLET: [she shakes her head, brow slightly furrowed.] No, I didn't notice anything. I wasn't really looking… one of the last times I was there before, when I was leaving there had been some shufflers and a few of us hid out in my truck, so… I wanted to get out and back home as soon as possible in the first place. BISHOP: [raises an eyebrow, expression curious.] This wasn’t your first time encountering shufflers near Walker’s? [the question is only slightly on topic, though he wonders if this might help the council paint a clearer picture of the zombie population issue that led up to this event.] VIOLET: No, there were some… a month before? [she scrunches her nose in thought, trying to remember.] I’m not sure of the exact date but they were there, outside. BISHOP: But the group around Walker’s this time was larger? [pauses, even though he knows Violet had direct contact with shufflers, he knows he has to ask this next question.] So on the 8th did you come in direct contact with a geek? VIOLET: Yeah, a lot larger. Before it was just a few that I saw, but this… they were everywhere. [her body tenses slightly at the question, shoulders curling in a bit.] They… yeah, we had to go through them to get to our truck and their hands were… they were trying to grab us the whole time. Touching us. [after a moment.] And then I kicked the one that got Ryan. BISHOP: [he reaches out then and places a hand on Violet’s shoulder. He knows how hard reliving these moments must be.] I’m sorry, darlin’, [he doesn’t care if this conversation is being recorded, he expresses his sympathy for her anyway.] Your contact didn’t result in a bite, but were you injured at all? VIOLET: [offers him a flicker of an attempt at a smile at his apology before frowning again.] No, not from them. Before I got outside, I got knocked down and… stepped on, I think. It was all a blur. BISHOP: The whole incident being a blur is real understandable, darlin’, [he glances down at the lists of questions he still has to ask.] In your opinion is there anything you think could have been done to prevent this event from happening? VIOLET: [her brow furrows slightly.] I don't know… how it happened in the first place, but there has to be some way to make someplace like that more secure, right? I mean, that's the second time I’ve seen them there, and that's just me. BISHOP: [nods.] Right, and this is what the government is trying to accomplish. It ain’t good to have geeks shuffling around outside of Walker’s. You shouldn’t have had to see them the first time, let alone a second time. [he doesn’t even attempt to hide his opinion.] Darlin’, do you have anything else you would like to add here? VIOLET: [gives a quick shake of her head.] No, nothing to add. BISHOP: [he wants to let the interview end, but there’s one final question he has.] In your opinion is there anything you think could have been done to prevent this from happening? VIOLET: [frowns, considering for a moment.] I'm sure there has to be something, but I don't know what. I mean, I don't know anything about security but there has to be something that could have stopped this, right? [absently chews at the inside of her lip as she looks over at him.] Not a very helpful answer. BISHOP: I’m pretty sure an answer ain’t cut and dry, so even if you ain’t got the solution for the issue, your opinion is helpful. [glances at his list of questions.] Well, I ain’t got anything else to ask you. So unless you’ve got something else you’d like to say, I think we could end this thing. VIOLET: [lets out a slow exhale.] That's all. BISHOP: [shuts off the tape recorder and set aside the notepad he had been using.] Alright, darlin’, thank you for your time today. |
