Noa reads Marina’s expressions carefully, getting the feeling that they’ve hit a limit on what she knows. But even the few pieces Noa was told help her understand what they might be against.
“If his men are already using, it ain’t such a stretch to think he’d try recruiting from the tunnels,” she muses out loud, after a few moments of silence. “Ghouls are about as desperate as anyone in this city, and dangerous.” In the past she’s avoided them as much as she could out in the city. Their responses were unreliable and unpredictable.
She finishes the last of her drink before she adds, “I suspect we’re left with nothing but waiting, ‘cause we can’t prepare for every scenario.” And maybe they would be preparing for nothing, and that energy could be put elsewhere.
