She was startled at first when she heard a voice call out but then seeing it was Penelope, Lita calmed immediately. The girl had come to the hospital in rough shape. She was asymptomatic for the virus but still had an infected bite that needed treatment. During the physical process, Lita had discovered a previously undiagnosed heart murmur on top of everything else. Penelope had been dealt a rough hand in life but she seemed to be taking it all in stride and Lita found that to be pretty admirable.
"All my days are long," she answered, deciding to join the young blonde. Lita smells the cigarette smoke before she sees the light of the ash and she doesn't bother to rearrange her face into some less judgmental.
"Oh, I must have missed your checkup when they started prescribing a pack a day to keep the doctor away," she chided, but not unkindly. She had been a kid once and had done way, way worse at a much, much younger age. She didn't have much room to nag anyone but it came with the job.
"Don't worry, I'm not looking to tattle on you coming up here," Lita said, leaning up against the roof edge and peering down at the ground below. What a desolate, depressing view. She wondered if it was green anywhere anymore.
"Couldn't, unless I wanted to incriminate myself. And I'm always looking out for number one." She peered over at the young woman and winked. A conspiracy between friends about a little rooftop getaway wouldn't hurt anyone.
