"Because they're fucking idiots." It's true she thinks, that they had to be stupid to doubt her love for them. She's fought so hard to love them, to earn their love back, to earn their respect. To be part of something that she cherishes. It hurts that it could take seconds for it to be ripped away from her. That they could all despise her so quickly.
Every time she closes her eyes she can see the hurt and disappointment on Bishop's face. She can hear the anguish in Rodeo's voice. It breaks her heart.
"Who knows. Gun was taken in. I wasn't." It dawns on her after she says it that Jo doesn't know. No one outside of the guards who took them and Ollinger probably knows.
She hesitates to tell her the whole story. To do so would be breaking her oath to protect the Dog Park. As much as Jo seems as if she's sympathizing, the fact that they are enemies cannot be forgotten with a shoulder touch and a few soft questions.
But why delay the inevitable? The whole city will know soon enough. No doubt Ollie will trumpet his good fortune to anyone within ear range.
"This morning we were ambushed by the Capitol swine. All the officers were brought in. All of the officers save me. They said I had a deal. I didn't. They let me go, in front of all my crew, made it seem like I was working with the Capitol the whole time. It was pretty persuasive. Smart. Because now they're all in there with the real rat and I'm out here, running for my life."
