As soon as she is released, Teagan puts distance between them. Just a few feet. She swipes at the blood on her chin, sticks a finger in one of her ears as if that’s going to improve her hearing and most importantly, takes a moment to breathe. Her arms wraps around her middle and she squeezes in tight, a little leather ball.
She tucks her chin. The very idea of what she is about to say seems so ridiculous. So comical. It doesn’t make sense…it is the last thing she ever thought would happen. She barely believes it.
“They think I betrayed them…” Her voice is so hollow, so flat that there isn’t an echo. The words just sit around her like a black fog. The idea that her boys, the loves of her life, the people she would have gladly taken a bullet for so they could all go free all think that she could have ever gone against them is maddening. It’s laughable so…she laughs.
