Broadcast.
The camera pans to Senator Scott, sitting in the guest seat next to the news anchor, hands folded over crossed legs and looking solemn.
Anchor: Senator Scott, you’ve been more or less off the grid for months now. No one knows what you’re up to! Does your wife even know? Laughs.
Senator Scott: Laughs more reservedly. Oh yes, my wife often listens when I need to work things out outloud. The past few months i’ve really needed to work things out.
Anchor: Work things out? Could you be more specific?
Senator Scott: I’m sure I don’t need to tell you or any of the American people tuning in that the past few months have been troubling, to say the least. The reincarnate plague that has gripped humanity is only getting worse. They’re killing us in our homes, at our jobs, in our schools. The common person is constantly a victim to these lawless creatures, but our government still chooses to coddle them. Protect them. At the cost of the average American’s life. It’s not fair.
Anchor: Eyebrows knit together. Sir, I don’t mean to be harsh, but your own children have been proven to be reincarnates. If I’m following what you’re saying correctly, are you implying that your own children--
Senator Scott: Holds his hand up to stop the anchorman. My children are unfortunately part of the problem. While I love who they used to be, I cannot make excuses for them any longer. To hold them above the law would make me no worse than the terrorists plaguing our shores.
Anchor: Nods solemnly. I’m sure you’ve heard about the recent chemical attacks in New York. What’s your point-of-view on that?
Senator Scott: I believe that those actions do nothing less than prove my point. These...these monsters have skills, weapons, even powers from their afflictions that we haven’t even begun to find counter measurements for. We need them out of our country if every man, woman, and child is going to be safe from them. We need to return our country to the people who fought hard for it. Blue blooded Americans.
Anchor: By building a wall?
Senator Scott: Laughs genuinely this time. If I felt that was enough, then yes. Mr. Trump’s stance on immigration is a noble one. Unfortunately that isn’t enough to deal with reincarnates, not when they have abilities such as teleportation and super strength. No, we need to be more proactive than that.
Anchor: I’m sure the first step that people can take is to vote for you in the senate race this November…
Senator Scott: That’s a great first step, I just wish it were enough. I wish we had numerous options for this problem, not just for the sake of this country, but for my own children. Our attempt at a cure was out of sympathy for their plight. We were sure that not all reincarnates wanted to be stuck the way they are, but we were wrong. They would rather die than conduct themselves in a manner that’s safe for everybody.
Anchor: Yes, but are they people really?
Senator Scott: I believe they start as people, yes, but I believe that reincarnation is a choice, and it’s one you can’t come back from. Scientists on a liberal payroll will try and say that they’re still human, but I don’t think so. I think when they make that choice they cease to be anything more than a threat. It’s like that Skittles analogy that’s used often; if you had a bowl full of skittles and a few were poisoned, would you take the chance of eating from that bowl? Of course not. If any reincarnates were truly good, and I mean well and truly good, they would simply choose to no longer be a reincarnate.
Anchor: What can the average American do to help?
Senator Scott: Well, while I can’t condone violence--
Anchor: Of course not.
Senator Scott: We created the bill of rights for a reason, and specifically the second amendment. We have the right to protect ourselves against threats. Expose the reincarnates in hiding. Protect your families. Bravery is measured by what you’re willing to do to protect your family, so protect your family.
Anchor: Thank you, Senator. That was riveting. For those of you tuning in, make sure you vote in November for those who are really going to protect us. Coming up, Elizabeth Warren. Friend, foe, or missing a few screws? We’ll speak with the psychiatrist who’s studied her and believes….
