Entry tags:! log, 1998-march, character: merry goshawk, character: thorfinn rowle

WHO: Merry Goshawk & Thorfinn Rowle
WHAT: Keeping his promise to keeping her well fed.
WHEN: Monday, March 9th at 7pm.
WHERE: A restaurant in London.
STATUS: IP.

Thorfinn was not fond of muggle London. In fact, he was not fond of anything that had to do with muggles. But Merry didn't know that. In fact, most people didn't know that. And given his recent decision to run for Minister of Magic, he thought it might be best to work on his appearance a bit - his public persona, as it were, and take Merry out for dinner in London. He would have taken her out anywhere, actually, regardless of his feelings about muggles and politics. This was just an added benefit to being able to take her out. He had been pondering it for some time, and there was just something about the goofy girl that made his heart sing.

He dressed in his best muggle clothes. He didn't do anything half-assed, and it was obvious that he had done a bit of research (reluctantly) on what muggles wore so that he would blend in with ease. It had taken him quite a bit longer to get ready than it normally would have after coming home from work, but he wanted to make sure he passed well enough to keep secrecy in tact, to pass, and not make a spectacle of himself. It was important that everything go well for many reasons, though his priority was wooing Ms. Goshawk.

As set, he made his way out of his home and apparated into Diagon Alley, having decided on 7 o'clock to meet Merry before their dinner date. He stepped into the Leaky cauldron and glanced around, looking for the bundle of energy and red hair that had so easily requested the night be filled with chaos and Mexican food. When he spotted her, he easily came up to her side and gave her a brief hug and kiss on both her cheeks. "Ready to go, Ms Goshawk?"

This wasn't a date. Merry kept reminding herself of that as she got ready: this was not a date. This was making up for ditching her at lunch the other day (even though Finn had already made up for that by sending her all of his chips, which was the sort of ridiculous, weirdly charming thing he did that had created this fancy she had for him in the first place, which he was obviously too suave and worldly and all of that crap to actually return, so again: not a date.)

There was, therefore, absolutely no need to dress up or anything. Which was a bit of a shame, since Merry didn't get excuses to dress up that didn't involve her mum dragging her places, but then again it was probably a good thing given that London in March was a bit chilly to be wearing a skirt without leggings. Well, minus a personal heat charm, but the muggles would look at her funny if she was prancing around all half-naked without a care in the world, probably. Actually they might look at her funny anyway- Merry's idea of dressing muggle was a little less elegant and well-researched than Finn's- but she was pretty well-used to odd looks.

The Leaky Cauldron was one of her favourite places: friendly, warm, always full of interesting characters. She'd arrived a bit early mostly for the sake of sitting and people-watching, and was distracted enough to be a bit startled when Finn appeared at her side. She recovered quickly, though, and grinned at him after she returned the hug. "Lookit us, matching jackets, woo-hoo!" she enthused, pumping a fist in the air and nearly managing to clock a passing wizard, oops.

This was absolutely a date. Finn was rarely ever nervous, but he could feel the slight tinge of anxiety outlining his excitement. He should have made it clear to begin with that it was a date, but in his haste and excitement hed completely forgotten. Much like he had initially forgotten to tell her where they should meet. He wasn't doing. very good job with this date yet.

He hadn't meant to startle her, but she seemed to recover rather quickly. She celebrated over their matching jackets and Finn smiled at her. "Matching leather jackets, we are the epitome of cool." He nodded gerry seriously, before he looked her once over. "You look beautiful, Merry." And he meant it, she looked amazing. It wasn't the fanciest, but Finn preferred a more relaxed look on women. On anyone but himself really.

Taking up her hand, he lead her towards the door. "Ready to face muggle London with me, where we shall dine on chaos and Mexican food, as you requested?"

The compliment made Merry blush, even though Finn was the sort of person who gave compliments like that easily. Obviously, since she absolutely didn't look beautiful, especially now that her face was all red. Hell. Her father had told her more than once that blushing was unacceptable on a Ginger and made her look like a tomato.

Not that it mattered if she looked like a tomato, since this was a friendly supper and not a date.

"Always," she intoned, tucking her chin tp her shoulder and grinning sideways at Finn. "Let's find trouble before it finds us, yeah?"

The blush was cute. Finn didn't think for a moment that it made her look like a tomato, or any other plant based food. He smiled at her, a few fingers coming up to brush her cheek lightly, before dropping back down.

"Definitely a better idea to find the trouble first, not wait for it to surprise us." He agreed, as if this were common knowledge and troublemaking was an every day occurrence. Out the Leaky Cauldron they went, braving the cold and crowded streets of London.

"We don't have to walk far, I found a place close by. Its nice enough, so I can't tell if it's going to be good because it's a bit fancier, or good because it's kind of an unknown hole in the wall, or bad because it's neither of those things..." There was no real formula to it, but he pondered it anyway.

"Oh, right! How'd your mutiny go, love?"

It was a good thing that Finn didn't mind the blush, because it only deepened when he touched her face. Merry could blame that on the wind, thpugh. It was a totally wind-based flush. Nothing to see here, lads.

"It's on hold," she admitted with a small sigh as they walked. "I've got a new girl shadowing me, I'm not sure she can be trusted with my plans for shenanigans yet."

He didn't mind at all. A blush meant a lot of things, and very few of those things were negative. He liked when girls blushed, as long as it was a positive feeling and not one of sheer embarrassment. He didn't think he had done that to her, though.

"Oh, what a pity. Lovely for new members, though. Who is your lovely assistant?" He asked, still holding her hand gently as he lead her through the streets. They weren't quite as busy as he thought they would be, which was better for him.

Before long, they were at the little restaurant and he held the door open for her, finally releasing her hand as they stepped inside. "What d'you think? Could they have great or not so great food here?" He asked her this quietly. It was the sort of place where you sat yourself, so he motioned for her to pick a table.

"Uh, Penny. Penny Clearwater. She bought me lunch," Merry explained, trying not to get too giddy about the hand-holding. "Without ditching me and leaving me alone in a pile of chips, unlike some people." She knocked her shoulder into Finn's to show she was only teasing.

The restaurant seemed good. "Colourful," Merry said thoughtfully. "Me likey."

"I would never have left you like that if it were anyone else." He did feel truly sorry about that, and the frown on his face was genuine and apologetic. "My sister is very important to me." Thorfinn valued his family above all else, and was extremely devoted to them. "I promise I won't make ditching out on you a habit."

She seemed to like the restaurant, for which he was truly grateful, and he smiled brightly at her - letting go of her hand only when they took up seats somewhere. "Do you think you can forgive me for ditching you?"

The table was small, which was only to be expected in this setting, tucked away in a corner and rather intimate. As far as chaos would go, it left a little something to be desired, but in all honesty Merry was more interested in the food and the company anyway.

"Mmm," she hummed, pretending to consider, though of course she would, even if his expression hadn't been so sorry. "You're buying me dinner to make up for it, right? So I have til we've eaten to be sore about it. Then I forgive you forever. That's how this works, mister," she explained, and pointed a finger at Thorfinn to emphasize.

"That, among other things." He was being particularly vague, because he still wasn't excessively sure that Merry knew this was a date, that he thought of it as such, and whether she was interested in that sort of thing or not. She was younger than him, and he was sort of on the straight-and-narrow when it came to a lot of things. He rather thought he was a bit boring for her.

"Yes, you can be cross with me until the food is all finished and then I'll be glad to be back in your good favor." He smiled at her, quite content to be where he was.

"Well, good," Merry said, smiling back. "As long as we're on the same page."

A waiter appeared with a set of menus then, and she was suitably distracted by trying to pick something to eat and also by the arrival of chips and salsa. No girl could resist chips and salsa, she was sure.
