Who: Lee Jordan and vicky frobisher
What: They get to gossip about their dates
When: February 25th evening (slight back date)
Where: Vicky’s flat
Warnings: Likely nothing
Lee and Vicky had a lot of catching up to get to. He’d finally had a first date with Angelina and it hadn’t been terrible, and he’d kind of really enjoyed it and Vicky had been off having multiple dates with Percy Weasley of all people. So they got their ice cream, they met up at Vickys flat, mostly because it was safer that way and more convenient.
Lee threw himself down onto Vicky’s settee, making himself comfortable. “Okay, I have gnome gulf to tell you about, but first, I need to hear what Percy’s like when he’s around people he actually fancies, because I’ve never seen it. You start.”
Vicky laughed as she settled in next to Lee and propped her feet up on the coffee table. “He’s sweet. And funny. Not like the twins, but in a more understated way.” She flipped the spoon over as she put it in her mouth and licked the ice cream off it. “We went to dinner and a Muggle movie on Saturday. And then last night, after I charmed his robes and the twins, we went to The Swallowed Octave.”
She bounced a little as she turned toward Lee. “He kissed me last night, Lee. I kissed him first, just a peck on the lips, and then at the end of the night he pulled me aside and, like, really kissed me.” She sighed happily, feeling all warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about it. “It was… well, not actually magical, but it felt a lot like it did the first time I got to use a wand.”
Percy catching a muggle flick with Vicky was nearly as mind blowing as Percy going on a date with anyone. The weasleys may be blood traitors and extremely friendly to muggles, but Percy wasn’t nearly as into any of that as the others were. He was too high and mighty of that. Damn, Lee kind of wish he’d been able to see that.
“Blimey,” Lee said. “He kissed you? He really kissed you, bloody hell.” Vicky clearly looked happy about it, and Lee was happy for her, because there were few things better than a good snogging. He just needed a moment to get over the fact that this was Percy they were talking about. And apparently Percy could act like a normal human being - and was funny? Where the hell had he been hiding that? “That’s brilliant. Before too long, he’s going to be giving you his jacket and asking you to go steady with him.”
“Leeeeeee!” Vicky bumped her shoulder against his. “It’s not that serious yet!” Except he’d come by the station for lunch and they’d been making out in the breakroom and they were going out again on Sunday, so… maybe it was? Merlin. She didn’t know. “It’s only been five days. Three dates isn’t nearly enough to decide that we’re going steady.”
He was right about it being brilliant, though. She’d been surprised when Percy asked her out, and surprised at how enjoyable the date had been and surprised at how good of a kisser he was and… she was failing at keeping one foot on the ground like Ada asked her to. She needed to focus on something other than how much fun she’d had with Percy. “Besides, isn’t the jacket thing for muggle sport players?”
Lee grinned. “Three dates in five days is nearly enough to decide if you’re going steady, because that, love, is not steady at all. It’s like a steep incline. Not that I’m rushing you. You take your time, girl.” Was jackets a muggle sports thing? “I watched a muggle movie once, and the trading of jackets was a very big thing, I just thought that was what they did. They went steady, traded winter wear as a form of claiming each other. Sports wasn’t very common in this movie, I don’t see the correlation,” he explained.
“But that reminds me, for my date, I took Angelina to miniature golf,” he said. “And despite the name, it is not in fact about large bodies of water or gnomes.”
“Muggles have the strangest names for things, don’t they? And the weirdest habits.” Vicky wrinkled her nose. She liked Muggles, and thanks to her explorations during the summer when she was a teenager she probably understood them more than most wizards, but she still thought they were odd.
“Is miniature golf the one where they hit the balls into a bunch of different holes? And there are lots of obstacles, like mechanical ones?” She’d played that once, when she was fifteen. She’d been rather horrible at it, but apparently a lot of Muggles were too, because no one had noticed.
“Did you like it? Did Angelina?” That was the important part. “Are you going to have another date?”
“They’re odd little ducks,” Lee agreed readily. They’d spent the evening among the muggles, playing a completely magicless game, living like muggles for the duration of that game, and it’d been fun, sure. But muggles were odd as hell. “But it was bloody brilliant. It was inside of a building, and everything was lit up - to glow - in the dark. The balls, the clubs, the designs on the wall, the obstacles. Even my shirt seemed to glow. It wasn’t magical, but if there’s not a wizard behind that business, I haven’t a clue what kind of sorcery was at work. And she looked gorgeous, her dress glowing like that.” Lee was smiling, remembering it, and it was clear, before he even answered her that he’d enjoyed himself.
“It was brilliant,” he repeated, grinning wide. “She’s absolutely gorgeous. There’s definitely going to be another date.”
“It glowed? Really? Is that one of their science things? I didn’t think science would be used in recreation. You have to tell me where it was so I can take Percy.” The words tumbled out of her mouth almost faster than she could form them. Glowing Muggle golf. That really was brilliant, though Vicky suspected that Lee would have thought standing around in the rain was brilliant as long as he got to do it with Angelina.
Vicky took another bite of her ice cream. “Did you snog her?” She’d kissed and told, so he should too, if there was anything to tell.
“I’ll give you directions to it, if you get a shot of Percy’s face when he gets a load of it. Blimey, you should’ve seen Angelina’s face. She looked like she just saw the second coming of merlin hisself. It was gorgeous. I wish I could bottle that look on her face.” Then Lee nudged Vicky with his elbow, grinning. “Don’t think I didn’t notice you planning future dates already.” He pinched her cheeks and practically hummed, “that’s adorable.”
“Snogging may or may not have definitely happened. It definitely happened,” he said attractively around a mouth full of ice cream. “She smells like sunshine and unicorn tails,” he added, somewhat dreamily.
“Promise.” Vicky liked the idea of getting a picture of Percy. He really was quite dashing when he lit up. She would love to capture that moment. She swatted ineffectively at Lee’s cheeks when he pinched her cheeks. “I really like him, okay?” Yeah, it was early on, but Vicky was falling hard and fast for Percy. Four dates in 8 days was probably a lot, but she was having fun. And so was he. “We have fun when we go out.”
“How do you know what unicorn tales smell like?” She’d touched one, when she was at Hogwarts, but it had never occurred to her to smell its tail. That was just odd. Then again, the boys had gotten up to some strange stuff that day, so maybe Lee had smelled her tail. Still. Gross. “Snogging is good, though. Percy and I snogged a lot in the break room at work today. One of the other reporters walked in on us. I wish I could have gotten a picture of her face.”
And speaking of pictures… Vicky grabbed Percy’s camera from the coffee table, almost spilling her ice cream in haste. “I need you to take this and get a picture of the twins. Tonight or tomorrow, if you can. And you can’t tell them why.”
It was weird to see anyone, let alone someone close to him fall hard and fast for Percy. Eventually, he’d learn to distance himself from the incredulity that came with saying Percy’s name out loud - or in his own head - if only for Vicky’s sake. But today, apparently, was not that day. He was still incredulous. Fun. That was it - that was the word he’d never heard in reference to Percy.
“I’m glad you like him, love. Merlin knows somebody ought to like him,” Lee said, and he meant it. Percy wasn’t purposefully vindictive or malicious, so Vicky could have fallen hard and fast for a worse lad than him. “I may or may not know what unicorn tails smell like, but it as an accident, and they smell like puppy dogs so it can’t be helped,” Lee explained.
Snogging with Percy, bloody hell. Snogging in the break room - with Percy - Lee couldn’t keep a straight face, he laughed. He couldn’t imagine anyone sneaking around with Percy. Thankfully their talk of pictures helped Vicky change the subject. “Well, I live with the blokes, I should be able to get a picture in a day,” he said taking the camera. “They probably won’t ask why, fancy the world attracted enough to them to take their pictures without an ulterior motive, I think.”
Vicky really didn’t want to know the details of how Lee accidentally smelled the unicorn’s tail, though she imagined there was quite a story behind it. Maybe some day when she was feeling especially brave, she’d try to get it out of Lee. Right now, though, she wanted to talk about what she’d done to the twins.
“You did see the twins’ hair this morning, right?” She pushed away fears that the charm had already dissipated. Percy had been in good spirits about it at lunch, so clearly the color change had lasted until at least then. Hopefully, it would last through the weekend and into next week. “They don’t know it changed color.”
Lee nodded. It was hard to miss. He’d thought they were trying out a look - or an experiment had backfired. So he hadn’t thought to mention it, because mishaps like that were so commonplace, they were entirely unremarkable. However, not knowing about the change - that was new. “What do you mean they don’t know? How can they dye their hair without knowin about it? They’re talented, but hardly that talented.”
Vicky giggled around her ice cream. “I charmed it. And I charmed them so they can’t see it.” She giggled again, pleased with herself. It had taken a lot of work to figure out the second charm, especially casting it silently, but the look on Percy’s face had been worth it. “It was Percy’s idea.
Vicky looked proud of herself, and she should be. While Fred and George had never been the best students, they were masters at what they did, and a lot of that involved charms. To pull one over on them - that was something to be proud of. “Percy?” Lee echoed, which was probably more surprising than Vicky actually pulling off her charms. “What the hell, Percy. Prefect Percy, having the gusto to prank a Weasley.”
“I think he just wanted to get back at his brothers.” Vicky shrugged. She’ been surprised when he suggested it, to be honest, because it wasn’t like the Percy she knew, but she’d liked the mischievous glint in his eyes. She hadn’t even considered saying no. And as it turned out, the real Percy wasn’t anything like the Percy she thought she knew.
“He was pretty bitter about that horrible tux they made him wear. He suggested the hair when I offered to change it to a better color.” She winced at the memory of the hideous orange. The emerald green and white was much nicer.
Lee hadn’t seen the horrible tux, but he’d heard plenty about it - just not from Percy’s side of things. He rarely got to hear things from Percy’s side, so maybe this would be nice - to have somebody in Percy’s corner. “Well good for him, then,” Lee said. “It’s about time Percy starts sticking it to his brothers - and I saw that as someone who loves his brothers. But the only way to get them to back off is to outwit them. Percy’s just been using his smarts in a whole different arena than Fred and George. Maybe they can respect him now.”
“I hope so.” The animosity between the twins and Percy was honestly distressing now that she and Percy were dating. She’d never thought about it before, but now that she saw Percy’s side, she did understand why he was so distressed. Of course, she also saw the twins side too--Percy was really uptight around the twins--and that was what made it hard. “It would make things easier if my friends and my boyfriend got along.”
That was enough of that, though. Percy and Fred and George would figure out how to get along or they wouldn’t, and there was nothing Vicky could do except try to support them all. It was time to talk about other things. She finished her ice cream, and stretched out on the couch with her feet in Lee’s lap. “So, how are things going at The Prophet?” Yes, they were technically competitors, but it was a friendly rivalry. Vicky and Ada’s show didn’t usually cover the same topics as Lee’s articles.
Lee obviously wasn’t as torn in his loyalties as Vicky was. He wasn’t dating Percy, and regardless - he feared his loyalty to the twins might even surpass whoever he chose to date. Maybe even Angelina. He didn’t know, he’d never had to choose before. Fred and George were his soulmates, he loved them as much as he’d ever loved anyone; he doubted he could ever side with anyone over them.
“Work is bloody brilliant. Skeeter thinks I’m a child, and I think Cosmo actually hates me.” Lee didn’t sound down about it, though. He was the type of guy that rarely sounded down about anything, and when he did - you knew it was serious. He liked opposition, he liked challenges, but he also liked friends, and things coming easy to him. It made it increasingly easy for Lee to be pleased with any sort of outcome. “But it’s brill, I want the challenge. I’m going to make them eat their words, they just don’t know it yet.”
