Who: Hallam and Marcelia Selwyn
What: Coming home at the end of a long work day
Where: Selwyn Manor
When: Late evening after the minister's announcement
Rating: Low? If it changes I'll change this
Status: Thread, ongoing

It had been a busy day at the office. From the moment the Minister of Magic's resignation had been announced and that the race for a new one would start soon...well every wizard with enough money, political interests, and a view for backing a candidate early to have their influence later wanted to check in on their finances. Changing where their money was, liquidating some assets, last minute stock and investment changes, it was a chaotic day. But Marcelia thrived off it, and this helped her know what was in the running or looking to influence the race.

Still, it was nice to be home. After leaving her things for the house elf to deal with, she made her way to Hallam's study, knowing the wards would have already alerted him to her arrival. She was later than intended but it had been worth it. At his study door she smiled at him. "I hope you aren't starving darling."

The study was rich in colours and dark in mood. His long body draped regally on his chair as he stared at some designs that had been sent to him from a designer in India. She had a knack for colour combinations and cuts that made the wearer have command, but there were a few changes that needed to happen. He was never happy with muggle influence in his designer's pieces.

The cold and scrutinizing look on his face faded immediately at the sight of his wife. Ice melted away to show a boy who could not love but for one special woman and the son they had together. To some the change in his presence when she was around might be alarming or adorable, but he could not help himself. They still could have an aristocratic, purist air while being in love.

"Famished," he answered. The work could wait. Hallam stood to his full height of six three with the grace of a cat and kissed his wife. "I am glad you are home."

She smiled as she watched him come over, a smile that would have surprised many since it could only have been described as...girlish. There were many ways to describe Marcelia Selwyn, but girlish had never been one. Yet that was the effect only her husband seemed to have on her. She adored the cold and cunning aspect of him, his ruthless drive, but she also adored that it could all truly melt away in an instant for her and only her.

"And I'm glad to be home darling," she responded before tugging just slightly on the collar of his robes to bring him closer to her height while kissing him back. She could have of course walked over, but she liked making him come to her, he had a way of moving with such grace that she loved to watch. "Such an eventful day. You'll have to tell me what you've been up to. Is Hal in bed yet?" She expected their son should be, it was late enough after all.

No matter how he tried to hide his smiles, she brought out the best in him. They were of similar mindsets and logic; together they were a powerful and attractive couple that could put many to shame, but Marcelia was the pure reason Hallam, even as a Death Eater could cast a patronus. Her beautiful smile and the way his heart jumped at merely hearing her voice pushed all the bad away for the moment and broke him open like an egg. Death Eaters did not exactly need the patronus charm, but Hallam liked pushing his abilities to their limits.

"I had him put to bed several hours ago, with the extra boost of a sleeping charm since he was rather all over the place today." Hallam had not been home for most of it, but when he had arrived one of the house elves were whimpering in the corner and slamming their head against the wall. It was all over-dramatic as house elves were.

"My day has been full of work, really. I dealt with our mudblood filth's indiscretions yesterday and now it is back to focusing on more important things." He smiled, turning to his mini bar. A chilled bottle of expensive wine had laid in wait for his wife to get home. Hallam did not need a reason to celebrate, but Regulus stepped down and a chance for a more effective face to be put in the seat was an amazing turn of events. With his ear at the mouths of the influential and her eyes on the comings and goings of their money, they would be able to see the turning of the tables.

"I am encouraging Thorfinn to run. I think he would be the best choice, of whom has stepped forward so far amongst our friends. His father, as much as I love the man, let's his heart get in the way- Though I doubt he would put his name into the race at all." Hallam handed Marcelia a glass of wine, holding up his own in a silent toast to their days.

She adored her husband, there was no question about it, and it was fitting that two people who could be so ruthless brought out the best in each other, and for each other.

"Oh I'm sure the house elves were overdramatic as ever about that," she sighed and shook her head at the thought, glad she didn't have to be the one to deal with it this time.

"Good, we have more important matters to focus on. Turning the ministerial tides in our favour." Marcelia took the offered wine and returned the silent toast with a coy smile.

She took a thoughtful sip of wine as she considered the topic of the Rowles. "Thorfinn would be wonderful, for us especially, but I worry about the public perceiving his youthfulness negatively. His father would be more ideal on that front, and I will say has a more level head and a sense of caution that some of our peers lack, but I'm not sure he'd be willing to do everything needed. Besides, he has no interest in the position. It's really a moot point though, if Thorfinn wins, his father can be used to show he has an older and experienced advisor. It's all about palatable appearances right now."

"At least they punish themselves, so I do not have to do it." Hallam rolled his eyes at the antics of the slave creatures. How anyone thought they would oor could survive on their own was beyond him.

"His youthfulness can always be used as a positive. As we are close, I am sure I will have his ear over the matters and can help coach him into saying the right thing. Attracting customers is my profession after all." Hallam sat down on a nearby deep red leather chair that was usually used by whoever he had over for business talk. Blue eyes moved over his wife in appreciation, she not only had beauty but brains as well.

"Mister Rowle has always been on the lighter side of being able to do what was needed. He is great for insight of all sides, but action is not something he seems to favour as much." The older Rowle had been like a mentor to Hallam when Thorfinn and Hallam started their friendship. The soft heart, though not the most practical thing amongst Death Eaters, gave him a unique outlook that Hallam could appreciate. Hallam had a hard heart to most, but it was Fletcher that had taught him the importance of family while keeping the eyes on the prize.

"When the other candidates are announced we will have to assess his chances then. Currently we have more variables than the public perception of Thorfinn's maturity level." Setting down his drink, Hallam reached over to his wife and tugged her down onto his lap. HIn public, they played the good hosts or guests, always proper, always close enough but not too close for other to be uncomfortable, but in private Hallam could not keep his hands off his wife. He enjoyed even the most basic contact with her.

Slowly following him to the chair, Marcelia set her wine glass down as he sat, predicting the tug into his lap that followed. "Yes, you are very good at attraction, love," she teased as she leaned into him and draped an arm around him, curling up comfortably against him.

"But you're right. As much as I appreciate Mister Rowle's levelheadedness and caution, too often does he cross that line from simple caution to inaction." Marcelia kissed her husband's temple and leaned her head against his. These were her favourite moments, after a long day being able curl up in his lap and whisper plans and ideas in his ear. "Luckily for us all, his son doesn't have that same problem. You know love, we should have Thorfinn over for dinner once the candidates are announced. Discuss plans, policies, new dress robes, share what we know about his competition, the whole bit." Of course Finn was over for dinner often enough, and Marcelia was fond of Hallam's old friend. It'd really be the best for them if he won, and if there was one thing the Selwyns were good at besides being a power couple, it was managing things in their own interests.
