Who: Terry Boot & Mandy Brocklehurst
What: A surprise date.
When: Saturday, Feb 21 at 8pm.
Where: Astronomy Tower, Hogwarts.
Status: Ongoing

Terry and Mandy had sort of tentatively told each other they had feelings, and Terry really wanted to explore that. He wanted to see where that went. So he went ahead and set up a little date, hoping Mandy would be agreeable to it all. He had gotten a bunch of warm drinks (tea, coffee, and hot chocolate) from the kitchen as well as some dessert-type things, pastries and other little cakes one might normally have with tea. he had gotten blankets and pillows and hauled them all up to the astronomy tower. The night wasn't quite clear, but it was clear enough that the view was quite lovely from where they would be.

He got here early to set it all up. Blankets and pillows on the ground, extra in case they got cold, and the drink and food items all laid out, ready to go. He just needed her to get there, was all. He went ahead and sent her a journal message, before he stood up and attempted to fix his hair, staring into the brass outside of a telescope to use as a make-shift mirror. He adjusted his shirt, fixed some pillows, moved a few other things around, and then nitpicked this and that as he waited for her to arrive.

When he heard footsteps coming up the stairs, he went more towards the door. "Mands?" He called.

Things were still a bit tenuous between her and Terry despite what they'd said over the journals. Of course they'd seen each other, daily even and spoken but proper time alone was sometimes quite hard to find in the castle. So when Terry suggested that they go to the Astronomy tower to take in the stars, she'd been surprised at first but quickly pleased to be able to have some time with him.

Of course, it did mean having to rush to her room, look presentable. Terry had probably seen her at her worst, but that didn't mean that she didn't want to make an effort and at least try to look as good as she possibly could. No expert with beauty charms, Mandy had nevertheless put on some fresh clothes, made sure her hair looked nice and some basic makeup. Satisfied, she headed out of the Ravenclaw Tower and out toward the Astronomy Tower.

"Yeah. It's me." Mandy said in response to Terry's query as she reached the door to the classroom. Opening the door she stepped in, her eyes catching the "Oh Terry, this is lovely."

She seemed genuinely happy to see him. Terry could only grin broadly in response, giving him a brief hug with a kiss on the cheek in greeting before he ushered her in all the way, letting the door swing closed. He walked in farther to the room, and started to point at things nervously.

"I wasn't really sure what you liked... So I got tea, coffee, and hot chocolate, plus there's all sorts of foods you can try I pretty much stuck with desserts or pastries since we just had dinner not long ago..." He was rambling a little bit, and had to stop himself.

Terry waved a little, suggesting they both sit down. "Which would you like?" He asked, grabbing a cup to pour a bit of coffee for himself, a second cup in hand for whatever Mandy might have wanted.

Mandy was pleased to see him, and the effort and it was touching really. So when he hugged her, she hugged him back briefly, but then he was gone and she was following him deeper into the room.

Mandy smiled a little as Terry babbled. She nodded listening as he pointed things out. It was cute, really, and she was so pleased that he'd put in all of this effort. When he paused she smiled again. "Tea, for now please" She said at his question. She took a step toward him, kissed his cheek and smiled. "This is really see, thank you."

He hadn't meant to the hug to be too brief, but he didn't want to come on too strongly either. When they were settled down, he poured her the tea she asked for and handed it over.

"There's extra blankets if you get cold, too." She thanked him again for the little impromptu picnic and he blushed, smiling that large, goofy grin at her. "It's not a big deal. I really wanted to do this. I really like you, Mands, and I wanted to... be able to show you. You know. That I mean it."

"How very considerate of you." Mandy said with a grin as he mentioned the blankets. She couldn't really believe just how much thought he'd put into all of this. It was incredible and so sweet. Taking a sip from her mug, she held it between her hands and smiled as the heat radiated through her. "I appreciate this, and now I feel like I should show you somehow too." Mandy said, biting her lower lip as she considered the situation.

Terry definitely wasn't one to do anything half-assed. That's also why he'd done the whole dancing lessons with her, too. Well, partially. He did want to learn how to dance better, practice before the actual dance happened, but he also wanted to spend more time with Mandy. It was definitely a win-win sort of situation for him. "You don't have to, if you don't want to. I didn't do this to you know, get anything in return from you." He wasn't that sort of guy. Of course, if she wanted to, that was different. He'd just wanted her to know that she didn't have to.

"No, I want to." Mandy clarified. She smiled at him again. "Unfortunately the late-night picnic under the stars has already been done, so I guess I'll have to get creative." She said, glancing up and out toward the telescope.

"Yeah, remind me to beat up the prat who stole that picnic idea from you, will ya?" Terry grinned at her, picking up one of the little pastries and eating it, alternately sipping his coffee. "You know I feel like a bit of an idiot. I should have asked you to the dance myself - I've liked you for ages. It's sort of embarrassing how long I've fancied you for."

Laughing, Mandy nodded. "Too right you should." She grinned. "It is proper romantic though and I am feeling quite spoiled, so that certainly helps." She grinned, pleased that she wasn't feeling nearly as nervous as she thought she might, even if the butterflies were still fluttering. Reaching out, she picked up a pastry herself.

When Terry then mentioned the dance, Mandy blushed a little but shook her head. "No, honestly, it's my fault, Terry. I shouldn't have suggested Hermione, I thought you might realise I fancied you if I suggested me and then..." She trailed off and shrugged her shoulders. "I didn't think I'd be so lucky to have you fancy me too."

"Is it? I wasn't sure if it was the right touch of romantic or if it was cheesy." He smiled, though, obviously quite pleased with himself for managing something she thought was romantic. Totally another point in his favor.

His face went to one of shock, though, when she thought he wouldn't have fancied her back. "Are you kidding me? Mands, you're like, supreme. Anyone who doesn't fancy you is either very stupid or does not like women." Obviously.

"No, right touch of romantic." Mandy said with a very definitive nod. It was and she was happy, more so that she was spending time with Terry than anything else, but also that he'd gone through the effort.

The look of shock on his faced confused her but when he continued she blushed, turning bright red as he complimented her. "Supreme?" She asked, trying to make light if only so she could get through her embarrassment. "Is that the word we're going to use then?" She smiled a little, biting her lower lip again. "I think, in this instance I'm quite pleased to be wrong."

"Brilliant." He replied, his grin growing wider. He was pretty happy about how this was turning out, and to see her smile like that - it was amazing, really. He'd put that smile there, and the smile was for him. It was beautiful.

The blush on her cheeks as he complimented her made his heart skip a beat, butterflies in his stomach and all that. "Good. I like being right sometimes." He said with a little laugh, though they both knew Mandy was more frequently correct than he was.

"And, I know it's a bit soon because we haven't even finished this one, but I'd like to do something like this again... And you know, next Hogsmeade... would you like to go with me? As a date?"

"I guess I can let you be right on occasion." Mandy responded with a laugh on her own. Granted, Mandy generally hated to be wrong, but well she was quite happy how this was turning out and more so the fact that Terry actually fancied her.

When he asked her out again, Mandy nodded, probably a bit too much and she couldn't help the big grin on her face. "Yes." She said early. "I'd love to." Mandy added with a smile. "Now, lets just hope this keeps going well." Mandy added winking at Terry, trying to come across so much braver than she actually felt before she took another sip from her mug.

"Thanks, Mands, that's real sweet of you." A playful grin was tossed her way. Terry did like to be right sometimes, too, but he wouldn't have put being right in front of caring for someone, and Mands could be right all she wanted if it made her happy.

He was absolutely thrilled that she wanted to go to Hogsmeade with him, and then had to laugh at himself for getting so far ahead. "Yeah, if this goes sour after we've agreed to go on more dates it'll be a bit strange when those dates come up." Terry shook his head, finishing off one of the pastries and leaning back against the wall behind him, staring out at the stars.

"You look beautiful, by the way."

"Well, to be fair, we do know each other quite well by now so really we should have seen the worst by now." Mandy said with a grin to show that she was teasing. Picking up another pastry, she took a bite before shifting a little bit closer to Terry and following his line of sight.

"I -" Mandy blushed as he complimented her again. "Thank you. You do too. Or er dapper? Is that the right word?" She thought out loud then blushed even further as she thought she might sound ridiculous. "You know what I mean. Right?"

"That's true. I've known you for seven years. Same house, quidditch team practices, we've seen a lot more of each other than my mum and dad did when they were dating." Because his mother was a muggle, they hadn't spent all seven years at Hogwarts together, they had gotten together without knowing anything about each other at all, really.

"Dapper is a great word, though I suppose I'd prefer if you called me pretty." He said in a serious tone that did not match the joking grin he wore on his face. "I know what you meant." He replied in actual seriousness, smiling at her before he - sort of tentatively - reached out to take her hand. "Are you nervous, Mands?"

"Yeah, mine too." Of course her father had always known about the magical world but never been part of it, not truly. She supposed it was a bit of a miracle her parents had even met let alone fallen for each other. "It's a miracle we can still stand each other." She smiled, hoping to cover some of the nervousness with teasing.

"I suppose I'll just call you pretty, then." Mandy said, not managing to hold the serious tone. Terry reached out for her and she smiled a little. When he asked her flatly, Mandy hesitated for a moment before nodding. "A bit yeah. It's just... I don't want to say the wrong thing."

"Right? With all those grueling practices you put us through, I'm surprised I'm still standing at all." He teased. He loved their practices, he thought Quidditch was brilliant. And he wanted to be the best, to make his father proud. That ambition drove a lot of his actions.

"Oh, good, that makes me feel loads better." He laughed, since that wasn't really something guys would like to be called but Terry wasn't most guys, either. He thought it was pretty funny, and probably soon to be a nice little inside joke between them.

She let him take her hand, though, and Terry thought that was a good sign. "You can't say the wrong thing. Unless it's 'Terry you're a prat and this date is awful.' Then that might be wrong, or maybe right but not something I particularly want to hear." He smiled at her, giving her hand a bit of a squeeze.

"I'm nervous too, though."

"Oi, I am only trying to make us the very best we can be." Mandy said with a pout, She did know that he was teasing and a part of her was quite happy to take that, but given their loss and now Hufflepuff's win she was a bit nervous about their standings. Mandy shook her head to clear her thoughts.

"Pretty Terry." Mandy nodded, pleased with herself then laughed. "It has a nice ring to it."

"Oh, well in that case." Mandy paused for effect, making sure to look as serious as possible. "Terry, you're a brilliant person and this date is fantastic." She said then smiled and gave his hand a squeeze. The false bravado was definitely helping.

"I'm glad I'm not the only one."

"I know, and you're doing brilliant." Hufflepuff may have been winning, but that didn't mean the Ravenclaws weren't really good, too. They had only lost to Hufflepuff who was stomping everyone, that really didn't mean much did it? To someone like Terry it usually did in the heat of the moment, but he couldn't deny the Puffs were steamrolling everyone.

He snorted at the sound. Pretty Terry. It did sort of have an awkwardly nice ring to it. "Magnificent Mandy." He replied, grinning at her.

Mandy reassured him about the date once more and he visibly relaxed, still holding her hand in his. He had his focus on her hand, his thumb gently brushing against hers, as if he were trying to decide something.

After another moment of hesitation, he clumsily leaned forward for a kiss, stopping just a hair short of actually kissing her. He didn't want to kiss her without permission.

Mandy nodded and smiled a little at Terry in thanks. She did appreciate the sentiment, but she didn't want to think about that. Her failings at captain was not the sort of topic she wanted dominating their first date.

Mandy laughed at the new moniker and beamed at him. It was sweet. He was so sweet, and the way he looked at her and her her hand it made her all tingly.

Terry leaned in a bit toward her and for just a second Mandy wasn't sure what he was doing, but then she followed suit. He was so close, nearly kissing her; except he didn't, so instead she closed her eyes, closed the distance and kissed him.

If Terry knew that she felt that way, he would have spent the rest of the day convincing her it was untrue. Because he did think she was a fantastic captain, and that a loss on Ravenclaw's part had little to do with her actual captaining abilities.

But he didn't know that, so he couldn't. Instead, he made up a cute nickname for her, and hoped that he could just keep doing things to make her smile.

He had hesitated, and though he wanted to kiss her he didn't want to be overly forward. So when she finished the attempt at a kiss, kissing him back, he couldn't help but lean forward just slightly so that he could use his free hand to rest gently behind her head, kissing her for just a few seconds before ending it.

"Magnificent." He grinned.

His hand came up to cradle her neck and Mandy allowed herself to get lost in the kiss. She scooted in a bit closer, wanting to close the distance and enjoy the kiss. It was nice, so very nice.

When Terry spoke, Mandy hesitated for a second before laughing. It was perfect really, but then she wasn't really expecting anything less from him. "Pretty doesn't quite fit here." She said with a laugh. "Terrific?" Mandy added with a grin.

"Terrific is a good word." He agreed, laughing a little. Terry was beyond elation at this point. He was so glad things had worked out, and that he'd gotten the courage to ask Mandy on a date, tell her he fancied her. It had been ages too long, and he'd felt pretty stupid for keeping it a secret for as long as he had.

"I think we can officially say a second date is in order." He claimed, pleased with how well this was all going. He'd have to seriously screw up the rest of this date to warrant a cancellation of a second. "I can't believe I waited all the way 'till halfway through seventh year to kiss you."

"Isn't it just?" Mandy said with a grin. Terrific Terry, it suited him quite well. Then again, nothing at the moment could spoil her mood and Terry was a very big part of that.

"I could not agree more." She said, grinning at him. When he pointed out the current situation, Mandy frowned a little and made a bit of a face at Terry. "I know, you took far too long. Now I'm going to have to prioritise revision and exams over snogging you silly" She pouted a little.

He blushed when she mentioned snogging him silly, though he was grinning quite a bit. There was no objections in his part for that at all.

"Well then, we'll revise together and every time we finish a bit, we'll snog a little, then we'll revise again, then snog. I think we could get a really good system going." He was joking, sort of, and laughed before he impulsively leaned forward and kissed her again, just quickly.

"You are just, stunning. You know that?"

Not it was Mandy's turn to blush. Again. The idea was without a doubt appealing, especially f any of those kisses were like the one they'd just shared. Mandy couldn't really help the little flutter in her chest when he leaned in to kiss her.

"I - you're so sweet, Terry." She smiled again and returned the compliment with a quick kiss herself. She still wasn't sure she could ever see what he saw in her, but then maybe she could learn. At least it would be fun trying. "That's an excellent plan, by the way"

"Nah, it's not being sweet when you're just being honest." He'd always thought she was beautiful. From the second he laid eyes on her, all the way back when they were silly looking little children. There had always been something about her. It had just gotten more pronounced as they grew up.

He grinned at the fact that she liked his plan. He wanted to kiss her again - he could spend hours snogging her, those kisses had been so nice. But Terry was a gentlemen, and he wanted to take things slowly. He didn't want Mands thinking he was using her, or something. "Good, because if I don't get a kiss between revisions I might go mad."

Mandy smiled s Terry continued even if she was feeling incredibly embarrassed at the moment. It felt so very good to have him say those things. Especially someone as amazing and brilliant and fit as him. "Maybe, but I appreciate it, especially coming from you."

"I guess I can't really let you go mad can I?" Mulling the comment over, Mandy pretended to take it quite seriously. "No, I suppose that just would not do. It'll have to be frequent then. If you're amenable, of course." Mandy said, a smile twitching at her last words. Okay so maybe she wanted an excuse to kiss him loads.

Terry hadn't realized his compliment would mean so much to her. He figured guys complimented her all the time, what made his so different? But it made him smile all the same, feeling pretty special. And lucky. He felt really lucky.

Mandy asked if he'd be amenable to all those kisses and he jokingly gave pause and turned his expression serious like he was really thinking it over before he laughed, nodding his head. "Yes, I think I can live with that. To keep me from going mad, of course. Not just because I'll like it a lot."

As far as Mandy was concerned there was always someone prettier, someone smarter, someone better. Ravenclaw was sheer proof of that and although Hermione was a dear friend between her and the rest of the girls there wasn't a moment Mandy ever felt like she could match up, even if her scores were often comparable and occasionally better. The idea that anyone could possibly like her for her was still a rather new concept.

As Terry teased her, Mandy laughed and shook her head. Deciding to take a risk, which wasn't really much of one given the last few minutes, Mandy leaned in for another kiss. "Shall we start now?"

Again, if Terry had known... Everyone had their merit. No one was going to be Hermione Granger when it came to knowing things or mastering certain spells. But Hermione Granger couldn't fly, she hated it. She was a terrible flyer. Hermione Granger also wasn't as sociable. Everyone had their strengths and weaknesses. Terry was no Michael Corner, who all the ladies seemed to line up for. But he had his strong points, too.

As she leaned in, he couldn't help but grin. Forget about the tea and coffee, forget about the food he had brought up. She still wanted to snog! Was he lucky or what? He leaned in closer too, his face inches from her. "You sure you want to snog me?" He asked, half-teasing. "I mean, there's plenty of cakes and things, snogging can always wait..." He drew even closer, lifting one hand to gently brush her face, before his fingers sank back into her hair again.

"Why wouldn't I?" Mandy asked with a smirk. When he brought up the cake and everything else spread out in front of them, Mandy faltered for just a moment. Maybe this was too fast? Merlin, what must he think of her? She was being a little giddy because truly what were the chances that the boy you fancied since you were twelve fancied you back, but then he was touching her face and she was moving toward him. Maybe just one more kiss.

Breaking it a few moments later she didn't move far but smiled nonetheless. "Now, you were saying, cakes and things? I can't let your generosity go to waste, now can I?"

Of course, Terry didn't think anything more or less of her for kissing him like this, even if it was their first date. They had known each other for years. He was not a stranger, and they knew each other quite well. Even if they had just met, he would have just been happy, not judgmental.

He was overjoyed with the snogging, and a little sad when she pulled away but this was a date after all, and he was there to entertain and make her happy. Whatever she wanted, snog or not. "Oh yeah, they'll get all stale and inedible if we don't eat them and that would be really tragic."
