Entry tags:! log, 1998-february, character: angelina johnson, x-character: lee jordan

WHO: Lee Jordan and Angelina Johnson
WHAT: DATE
WHEN: Saturday, February 14. (Backdated Because Roz is terrible at responsibility) Takes place during their group date.
WHERE: Out on the town
RATING: Low, but it's gonna be plenty cute
STATUS: in progress

Lee had finally worked up the balls to take the leap. Now seemed like a better time than any had before. Lee was probably just feeling the pressures of his job and his own mortality. He hadn't been alive for the war. He hadn't dealt with people dying every day. But there were a lot of people dying now - not every day - but still moderately consistent. More than before. So he wanted to do something to take advantage of his life, his right to live; he wanted to live in the moment. He'd never felt that need before, because he liked to think he lived in the moment just fine already. Except when it came to Angelina. He'd been so scared of screwing it up, causing irreparable damage and losing her altogether.

So he asked her out, and they went on this group fling and had fun and then they slipped away from the rest and went out on their own. It was still crisp out, but Lee had no urge to rush out of the cold, because he was walking down the street with Angelina. It was still one of the fairer days out of the month, yet, and felt like a relief from the weather. "Als suggested I take you to a maze, and then a romantic dinner," Lee said. "She suggested fun but romantic. Lucky for you, I am both romantic and fun." He paused, almost dramatically, before adding, "but don't get too attached to the maze idea, though. There is no maze."

Mercifully, warming charms made excursions during the British winters infinitely more tolerable- so, even though she was wearing a short dress, Angelina hardly seemed to notice the chill in the air. If part of that had to do with her current company, well, so much the better.

"No maze?" she repeated, playfully crestfallen at the news. Angelina shook her head, nudging Lee with an elbow as she walked beside him. "That's fair, though. You'd have a hard time competing with that one they made up for the Triwizard Tournament, anyway. Not that I wanted to be in there, either- Diggory can keep that cup, just fine."

Lee conceded Angelina the smile when she nudged him with her elbow. It was a reluctant smile that came easily when he was around her. He'd wanted to be in that Triwizard maze, but very few Gryffindor's didn't. He hadn't passed the age limit, and he hadn't tried to nearly as hard as Fred and George had. "Probably not," he agreed. "But it'd be a valiant effort." He'd considered it, but decided that wasn't a first date thing. A first date was generally meant to be simple, like dipping your toes into a pool. Their problem was that they'd known each other for a decade now. They'd seen each other the awkward puberty phase. And he'd wanted this for a while now. So he just didn't want to screw it up.

Simple was hard to screw up. He'd probably find a way but it'd be hard.

He glanced toward her. "You look good," he said, his gaze lingering. "Did I say that already?" He had, the minute they'd all met up at the flat. But she did look great in that dress, despite the weather. She looked real good. "Like, real good."

His gaze lingered, but Angelina didn't seem to mind. She liked the attention, after all, even if that made her seem selfish or conceited. Still, it was fun to play off his compliments.

"Why Mr Jordan!" Angelina clasped a hand to her chest, batting her eyelashes playfully in his direction. "You'll make me blush, my fine sir."

Angelina was a spitfire. And she was teasing him, he probably wouldn't ever make her blush in this lifetime. He jostled her teasingly with his elbow. "Anyway," he said pointedly, as if she were the one getting them side tracked. "For this date, there's this muggle place. Miniature golf, that lights up naturally in the dark - which apparently is a theme of this place. I thought it'd be fun to go, to see if it's golf designed for gnomes, or if there's a height restriction - if there is I did come up with a plan B - and to see if it has anything to do with actual gulfs or if that's just a creative name they're trying out. Because us boys at the prophet are all about learning experiences. So, come learn the ways of the gnome gulf with me, love."

Teasing or not, there was always a chance that Lee's endless flattery might finally sink in with her. And, well, in the meantime, Angelina was content to let him continue on with it.

Sport- wizarding sport, anyway- was still a somewhat tentative subject for Angie, but Lee's description of this place intrigued her all the same. "'Learning experiences' is a fancy way of saying 'no idea what we're doing', hm?" she added, playfully. "Not that it's ever stopped us before- we're still Gryffindors, after all." Some people may have shed those House affiliations after Hogwarts, but for Angelina they still rang quite true.

Presuming there would need to be a side-along apparition, Angelina reached for Lee's hand, easily lacing their fingers together. "Lead the way, Mr Jordan."

Lee grinned, because yeah learning experiences was exactly a fancy way of saying 'fuck if I know', but Angelina was right, that'd never stopped them before, they were Gryffindors, and they'd clearly never shaken that mentality, even after Hogwarts.

Lee tightened his fingers on Angelina's, nodded, and then waved his wand and disapparited. They apparited outside of a building in a decidedly muggle part of London. The building was pretty nonsuspect, but once they were inside of it, it was an open floor, filled with an obstacle course. Each of the nine holes for mini golf had its own small obstacles - decked out with small plastic animals, and ramps with fake grass. The final hole had a minature windmill to hit the ball through. The most notable part of the course, though, was that it was dark. Instead of normal muggle lights - it was lit by black light, making the course, the obstacles, the clubs, the balls, and certain clothes glow in the darkened room. Lee's white shirt shone in the black light, as did Angelina's dress.

Lee took a minute to stare at the room - it was absolutely wondrous. And then he hummed and said, "I don't see bodies of water or gnomes anywhere."

The darkness inside had surprised Angelina, but it only took her a moment for her eyes to adjust. Once she did, she couldn't seem to stop smiling- it was just so ridiculous that it couldn't be anything other than amazingly fun. Lee's shirt seemed to glow, as did his teeth when he talked, especially compared to his darker skin- and Angelina assumed that hers did much the same. It was quite an effect.

"I can deal with no water or gnomes," she assured him, "because everything else looks amazing. Where do we start?" (She may or may not have sounded practically giddy at the prospect.)

Angelina's face was the best Lee could hope for. There was such a childlike wonderment on her face that he wanted to bottle it up and keep it. He couldn't do that, but maybe that did give his a goal to achieve - to always put that look on face with every date after this one - if there were more. That look alone made him want there to be more.

Lee dug into his pocket and pulled out a crumbled piece of paper and smoothed it out. It was a pamphlet he'd gotten ahold of, made out for muggle kids. "We get clubs," he said, pausing to look around. Eventually he found a rack of glowing clubs and practically skipped over. He selected one that glowed neon green. "A ball each." He selected a glowing pink ball from the buckets beside the rack of clubs. "

"Now this here says that the goal is to go around this course. And hit these balls with these clubs - with the goal to get the ball into holes at the end of the courses, just by hitting it with a club. I assume they're glowing so we don't misplace them in the dark. Nifty trick, that."

Angelina followed Lee over to the rack of clubs. They were nothing like Beaters' bats, which was the only sort of similar equipment she might have recognized. Probably for the best, anyway, since swinging around the long club would have gotten one (or both) of them in trouble. So instead, Angelina picked a blue club and, grinning, added, "Thank pink ball is very you," before picking up a purple ball of her own.

She was right handed, and it had been her left side which had been injured in the quidditch league- and, so far as she could tell, this little ball didn't seem nearly as intimidating as a quaffle, bludger, or snitch. "Bit smaller than a quidditch hoop, but I think I can manage a trick or two."
