Thread: Calliope Travers, Pansy Parkinson and Chloe Wilkes
Who: Calliope Travers, Pansy Parkinson and Chloe Wilkes
What: Reporting the fight with Zoe to Professor Wilkes
Where: Divination
When: The afternoon? of 27 January 1998, following the fight.
Rating: Should be tame.
Status: In progress.

Chloe had hoped (rather unrealistically, she admitted) that the trouble at Hogwarts was starting to settle down. Bullying was always a concern, and the students were understandably restive with the recent attack and the so-called Lady Noir on the loose. That the mysterious purist had moved up from poisonings, in which no one had been worse than ill, and threats to sponsoring murder was enough to set everyone edge (Chloe did not believe it was chance that one of Dirk Cresswell's nieces had been involved in whatever incident had taken place. Grief and fear bred anger as naturally as breathing.). Pansy's ward made it clear that those hopes had been entirely wishful thinking. She penned a note to her fellow professors, and waited for the girls to arrive.

Pansy met Calliope in the common room and looked her over with a critical eye. After a moment's assessment, she reached over to set the collar of the other girl's blouse noticeably askew. "There. Perfect. Let's go before you lose the tears."

She slid an arm around the other girl's waist, then thought better of it. "No. Too melodramatic. We mustn't oversell it," she murmured, taking the supporting arm away again. "Just stay close to me, instead. I'll take your hand in her office, when you're crying good and hard. Come on."

It wasn't far to Professor Wilkes's office; once there, the prefect knocked softly before calling through the door, "Professor? It's Pansy and Calliope, may we come in?"

This was what Calliope loved about Pansy - her poise and the way she just instinctively knew how to deal with every situation. She flashed a watery grin at the prefect.

It had been fun joking about sobbing, but like Pansy said, they didn't want to oversell it, so Calliope focused on keeping the tears falling down her face, accompanying them with sniffles and the occasional hiccup. "I should have been an actress," she murmured, checking with one finger that her lip was still bleeding.

"Damnit," she swore. It had already begun to heal, so she pulled out her wand and impatiently jabbed it, wincing as she did so. The cut reopened and a thin line of fresh blood trickled over her lip. "Right. Let's do this.

"Come in," Chloe half stood up at Pansy's knock. "I'm in my office," she called so that would know to come to the small room adjoining the back of the classroom. There would have been more space, if not for shelves lined with books and various divination equipment: astrological charts, Tarot cards, and one particularly fine crystal ball. There was just enough room for two wooden chairs in which the girls could sit.

The little she'd learned from the other professors so far did not bode well. Chloe had been a teenager once (as long ago as that was now) and had spent enough time teaching them to know they could be prone to exaggeration, even when they had the best of intentions. To be quite honest, she rather expected that sort of thing from Calliope. Pansy, on the other hand, was one of her more level-headed students. Chloe had chosen her for Slytherin prefect for a reason, and her concern carried weight.

She waited with crossed arms for the two girls to enter and be seated before asking for an explanation.

Pansy shot Calliope a glance, just to make sure the other girl still looked suitably rumpled and upset, and then led the way into the Professor's office, her expression carefully schooled to seriousness and concern. She stood in the doorway, letting Calliope go past her to take a seat.

"Thank you, Professor Wilkes," she said quietly once she'd settled into the other chair. "You can see why I thought it best to come talk to you right away, before I take Calliope to see Healer Bones. Can you tell her what happened, love? Just like you told me."

Calliope sat down in relative silence, with only the occasional sniffle audible. When she looked up at Professor Wilkes, she knew that her eyes were red-rimmed, her face tear stained, and her lips still bleeding, if only a little.

"Renaud jumped me," she said in a wobbly, "about to burst into fresh sobs" voice. "We were walking through the halls and she bumped me, so I told her to watch herself. Then she started saying horrible things to me. And I admit, Professor, I was rather unkind back to her, but only in retaliation for the horrible things she was saying to me."

She paused, sniffled. "I know it's not right to retaliate, but she was being so cruel, and I didn't want her to think that she could just insult me and I'd stand there and take it. But then she punched me in the face!" At this, she let out a little sob.

"Then we traded words again, then she launched herself at me, tackled me to the ground, and forced a..." she lowered her voice. "A kiss on me, Professor. And I didn't want to kiss her, not one bit. And then I finally managed to push her off me, and I ran. Right to Pansy."
