Who: Percy and Molly Weasley
What: Tea and sympathy after Percy lost his job
When: Some time after Percy finished writing in his journal.
Where: The Burrow
Warnings: None
Status: Closed, On-going

It had happened less than two hours ago, and Percy was still reeling from the shock: he was out of a job. Percy had been working at the Ministry since he finished Hogwarts, he didn't know anything else. They told him clean out his desk, and so he had a cardboard box full of his personal effects, which included his favorite tea mug, a fancy quill set that was a present from a past birthday, an motivational placard that didn't feel so motivational anymore, and a half eaten box of lemon biscuits. With his box tucked under his arm and his head hanging low in defeated shame, took the Floo from the Ministry lobby and arrived at the Burrow in a burst of green flames.

"Mum?"

Don't worry, they said. You worry too much, they said. "Ha." Molly looked at the clock in her kitchen and sighed heavily. It really wasn't the most helpful thing, but she saw when Percy arrived home before he spoke. She put the kettle on before moving into the sitting room to meet him.

She smiled encouragingly. "Hello, love." Molly took the box from her son's arms and put it carefully on the floor before she wrapped her boy in a protective hug, never mind that he was taller than she was.

Leave it to mum to know precisely what he needed. People were already giving him pep talks about how he'd be sure to get another job. Maybe even start his own business. That was practical and sensible, and Percy appreciated it, he really did. But right now, all he wanted to do was cling to his mother and soak in her love. Because deep inside, he was insecure and unsure about the future.

"Why?" he asked, his voice cracking with emotion. "I've been a hard worker, I came in every day, stayed late when I had to. Even worked weekends. Did I do something wrong?"

"Oh, honey." Molly pulled back and took Percy's face between her hands, making him meet her eyes. Despite the fact that he was so much taller than she, he was still her baby, and she hated the despair in his voice. "I am sure they cannot fault you for your hard work and dedication." She kissed his cheek and directed him into the kitchen where she made him sit.

Quickly, Molly fixed Percy a cup of tea and sat it in front of him before joining her son at the table. "I can't answer why, but I know a young man of your talent, intelligence, and drive will find something new with very little trouble." She caressed his cheek with the back of her fingers. "I have all the faith in you, my dear boy."

His mother was one of the few people with whom Percy would lower his defenses completely and reveal himself as the vulnerable, insecure person he hid from the rest of the world. At the table, he removed his glasses to pinch the tears that were welling up in his eyes.

"It's not just loosing this job, which is bad enough!" he timidly argued. "My whole world has crumbled. All I've ever wanted was to work at the Ministry. What am I going to do?"
