Who: Harry Potter and Luna Lovegood
What: A could-be date?
Where: Hogwarts, by the Great Lake.
When: After this
Rating: TBD
Status: In-progress

Saying hello to the Giant Squid was one of those things that Harry did not question about Luna. Several students interacted with the creature, but Harry was sure it did not speak English. He had brought some food to give the squid, knowing it would take anything given to it. Harry only briefly questioned what it was that Squids ate, if the Squid was even a normal Squid at all. There were tall tales that the Squid was actually Godric Gryffindor in an animagus form. Harry did not believe the legends, but it was amusing enough.

As Harry got ready for hanging out with Luna, he wondered if this was considered a date for Luna or not. Not that harry really dressed up in any way for dates, but dating Ginny had been easy because she was not a typical girly girl- though as he thought about it, Luna was not a typical girl in any means. Trying to smooth down his hair with a comb, it fought with him tooth and nail. A minute in and the comb was stuck in the messy dark brown locks. Harry grumbled in the mirror. He pulled on a clean shirt and headed out, forgetting the comb only to the first step out of the dorm into the hall. He pulled out his wand and forced the object to release his hair. The comb fell to the ground and scampered away. He would find it later.

Making it to the quad, he waited for Luna to appear.

Luna had been more than a little shocked at how the journal conversation with Harry had gone. Aside from her Ravenclaw mates, Harry was the first real friend she'd had. And they had been friends for quite some time, and she firmly believed that he didn't just pretend to be nice to her, he enjoyed her company. But she hadn't thought it went any farther then that, and perhaps if she had not had the experience of Devon fancying her and everything, she might not have understood what Harry had meant in the conversation anyway. But she did now, and she could already tell that this felt a bit different than her first more-than-friendship experience had felt.

She was not a typical girl in any way, shape, or form and so she did nothing special before going out on the walk. Her hair was a long, curly mess as it usually was. She wore no make-up, because to be honest she didn't really know how to put it on all that well and felt weird in it. She wore a bright outfit as she usually did, though meant for warmer weather. Despite the spring warmth, it was still chilly heading into the evening, and a pair of ratty old converse shoes to go with it. She was just... Luna. Wide-eyed and constantly surprised as she exited the door that led to the Quad and spotted Harry.

"Hello Harry." She said, her voice lingering on his name in a dreamy sort of way as it always did.

A lopsided smile graced Harry's lips as he saw Luna approach. Her soft voice one of those things he found attractive. It reminded him that no matter if he blasted forward in life or took a second to breath, he would still reach his goals.

"Hello, Luna. You look... brilliant." She had an odd sense of colour, but it was not the oddest thing about Luna Lovegood. Her pants though, Harry noticed above all else. They fit her well and he may have stared at them and their shiny nature for more than an appropriate length of time.

He gestured for her to walk with him. "So I brought some things to feed the Squid, though I honestly have no idea what they might eat." He dug through his bag and produced the bundled up toast and a few oranges. Really the oranges were for them, but if she felt it was a better choice, they could share the toast.

"Thank you, Harry. You look like you brushed your hair. Did you brush your hair for me?" That was probably a compliment. At least, coming from Luna it most likely was. She had always thought he was handsome, but it had been a very remote thought she didn't dwell on. Now, though, that she thought of it differently... "And handsome." She added on, not like an afterthought but more as a correction to the previous error in her statement. She nodded her head after she said it like she approved of her own sentiment.

He had brought food for the Squid! "That's very kind of you." Nothing made Luna happier and more interested in people than if they were nice and thoughtful towards creatures as well as people. It was a defining factor in whether or not Luna thought someone was a Good person or not. How they treated 'lesser' beings was just as important than how they treated their peers.

"I don't think they eat oranges, though. We can try. There's nothing saying we can't." She had certainly looked up a lot on the Giant Squid but there were lots of legends and things to navigate through when trying to separate fact and fiction about the famous Black Lake dwelling creature at Hogwarts.

Harry laughed, patting down the mess of dark brown locks that topped his head. No matter how much he brushed it there was no taming the beast. When he was younger he was sure that it was magically cursed somehow. "I tried to at least. Lost my brush when it ran down the stairs." A smiled pulled on one side of his lips at her compliment. He never really thought about how he looked, but he was glad that she noticed his attempt to impress.

Leading away from the courtyard, Harry took Luna on the longer path to the lake so their time could not be sapped away in name of a short visit. Without giving it a second thought Harry took Luna's hand while they walked. There was something innately calming about her that he appreciated. He was disappointed in himself that it took him this long to ask her out at all. They had hung out as friends, of course, but that wasn't nearly the same as being alone and knowing there was more intention in the hanging out.

"So what are you doing over the summer?" He had his whole life ahead of him once he graduated, but he wasn't sure how to start. Did he have his summer to find his true path or was it leave Hogwarts and immediately find a job? Go into the recruit program for Aurors? He knew one thing; he wanted to start learn ing from Sirius as soon as graduation was over. That was the only detail he had pinned down in his life. That and spending more time with Luna if her schedule would allow.
