Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Entry tags:! log, 1998-march, character: fay dunbar, character: seamus finnigan

WHO: Faymus (Seamus Finnigan and Fay Dunbar)
WHAT: Fay received some bad news and waits for Seamus in the boy's dormitory.
WHEN: Late tuesday.
WHERE: Boy's dormintory, Gryffindor house, specifically Seamus' bed.
RATING: TBD - Some cursing I assume?
STATUS: Ongoing.

Fay was not usually the type of girl who cried much. She wasn't excessively emotional. She liked to drown her sorrows in more productive things. But this had come as such a shock, and quite frankly a personal sort of blow. She'd never expected things to come down to this. If there had been any other option, Fay would have never come to Hogwarts. Never been a witch, and lived as a normal muggle girl with no knowledge of the magical world at all. But there was no way to just stop the magic like that. There was no going back. And her mother seemed to agree with that, except without accepting it the way Fay had, and the way her father had.

The letter was a cold and harsh note from her mother telling her that she was divorcing her dad and taking off. She couldn't handle her own daughter being what she was, and the danger it was putting them in. Apparently, she had been reading the papers and knew about some of the deaths and some mentions of war, and even the inconclusive sentiment that it was all happening again was too much for her to bear. She was out, done, and goodbye. Fay had sat on her own bed in complete shock, reading and re-reading the letter over and over until she finally just got up, and made her way into the boys dormitory.

No one was there, and she climbed onto Seamus' bed and drew the curtains around it, the letter sitting next to her. Pulling her legs up, she wrapped her arms around them and held herself tightly. A few tears slid down her cheeks, but she did her best to remain completely silent as she waited for Seamus to come back.

There were the sounds of some commotion outside the boy's dormitory as Seamus was saying bye to some of the other lads around. Luckily though, he entered alone and headed over to his bed, aiming to flop on it through the slit in the curtains. Unfortunately with Fay in there he ended up hitting her feet as he flopped down, and was incredibly startled to find anyone in there. "Blood hell Fay!" Seamus practically scrambled back to his feet and slid over the door to the dorm to shut it before he hurried back, hopping back onto the bed and drawing the curtains again.

"Feck, if you were going to come up why didn't you-" He cut himself off there when he finally got a good look at her face and the tear stains on it. "Fay? Hey hey, what's up?"

She yanked her feet back as quickly as possible - not enough, but it avoided any real damage, and then settled back into the position she was in before as Seamus was cursing for a brief moment, clearly startled. When he realized she was upset and asked her what was wrong, she took a minute to keep herself calm before replying.

"My mom. She's - well, she's divorcing my dad and taking off. Because she can't handle the witch thing anymore." She shrugged. It was all her fault, which made it so much worse. She thought her parents were totally cool, but apparently her mom couldn't handle the apparent dangers that came with having a muggleborn witch for a child.

"She read the news finally, and the stuff Lee Jordan's been writing and everything, and it scared her off I guess. She left me a really lovely note." The last bit in her voice sounded bitter and a few tears slid down her cheek. She slid the note over to Seamus.

He took the note carefully, glancing up at her and looking a little unsure if he should read it or not, before deciding that wasn't important. He left the note there on the bed and crawled over to her, wrapping her in a tight cradling hug. "Hey Fay, hey," he said soothingly as he pulled her close. "What's it mean? She's not going to talk to you or something? She's your mam, she still wants you in her life."

It felt good just to be wrapped up in his hug. Even with all their other history, she still thought of him as her best friend, too. And she needed that, she needed him. He asked if her mom would still be around, and she didn't answer right away. It hurt to think of it, but it had been pretty clearly laid out in her letter. "No. She doesn't want any contact with me at all. Doesn't want me to know where she is." Fay finally said, and her voice broke at the end and she started to cry in earnest.

Seamus didn't think there was much he could do but hold her tight, so he pulled her closer and let her cry on his shoulder for a few minutes, trying to be comforting while stroking her hair. "Bully for her Fay, if she's so worried her solution is to not see you then that's stupid," he said quietly after he'd let her cry it out a little bit.

"She is stupid." She replied, finally easing up on the sobbing. She curled herself into Seamus a bit more, laying her head on his chest and nuzzling the top of it just underneath his chin. "But that's what it is. She's just... upping and leaving. I don't know, maybe she'll change her mind." Fay wasn't sure she'd want her mom back after that kind of betrayal, though, even if she sent an owl ten minutes later saying she didn't mean it.

"I'm sorry to just barge in on you like this. I didn't - I just, I needed you."

"Don't worry about it, I've got you," he reassured her while rubbing her back. Of course he didn't mind her barging in, even when they were off she was still a good friend and he was there for her. It was sad thinking he wouldn't get to see these all the Hogwarts people much after they graduated, depressing really. "If she's smart, she'll change her mind and realize this is an awful decision," Seamus agreed.

It felt nice just to be comforted. Things had been so stressful - between the Death Eaters at the Wizengamot, the threat of Lady Noir, exams, being a muggleborn herself, Quidditch, and the regular emotional waves of being a teenager, Fay was feeling pretty exhausted. "I don't know if I'll be so forgiving even if she does." Fay admitted, almost bitterly. She scooted over a little, and went about folding herself into Seamus' arms as she laid down, sighing. "Too bad you can't kiss this better." Fay let out a half laugh, a poor attempt at joking.

Seamus couldn't help but chuckle a little. "While my kisses do have great magical powers, they can't fix everything. Even if I pretend they can and am willing to set up kissing booths," he said lightly, though his heart wasn't as into the joke as it'd normally be.

"They still make me feel better." She admitted, resting her face against his chest. "I'm scared, Sea." Fay didn't look at him - she liked to pretend to be fearless, take everything in stride. She didn't like being weak, or being perceived that way. "What if she's right? What if this is as bad as we think, or worse. I'm muggleborn. I could end up being a target. My family could be targets. It would be all my fault." Fay covered her face, doing her best not to break down again. It was definitely something she had thought of before. Wished she could just... stop the magic.

Seamus kissed the top of her head and squeezed her gently. "Nobody's a target Fay, it's not war. It's just some isolated crazies and a lady who fancies herself the next Voldemort. But she's not and you'll be fine. You'll be a kickass auror and able to hold your own."

"Some people are calling it a war. How is no one a target? There were lists Sea. I was poisoned along with every other muggleborn at Hogwarts. And as long as purists exist, I'll always be a target." Fay wasn't normally one to think that way, but with the glaring reality of her mother's abandonment, these very real things were starting to take a bigger hold in Fay's mind.

"I'm being dramatic." She replied, scrunching her nose. "I don't even want to think about it. I just want to shut my mind off for a while, but I can't."

"A little," he teased gently and flopped back onto the bed with her still in his arms so they were laying down. "It's going to be okay, not going to let anything happen to you. Stay here tonight okay? You shouldn't be alone." He gave her a short kiss, nothing that was meant to come onto her but more to comfort and tell her that he was there for her. "If you can't sleep, we'll stay up and talk about other stuff. I'll even let you tease me about that time I thought jumping off the astronomy tower to do a mid-air broom mount was a good idea."
