Who: Lucius and Narcissa Malfoy
What: Disposing of the body
When: In the wee hours of Tuesday morning. A few hours after this
Where: Malfoy Manor and the Shrieking Shack
Rating/Warnings: Deals with unpleasant things

The body in the second parlor had started to cool by the time it was late enough to properly dispose of it. Dawlish had come by in the early evening, a little before dinner time, and it was simply impossible to take a body anywhere at that hour without being caught. Over dinner, the Malfoys had discussed what to do with it, weighing the merits of having Dawlish simply disappear against the impact of having him found.

In the end, it was the roses they’d gotten on Valentine’s Day--and the cards that came with them--that decided it.

After dinner, Narcissa apparated into to the secret vault and pulled out a card with one gloved hand. “Gemino,” she said, stopping the spell after she had a single duplicate. The duplicate was likely unnecessary as they hadn’t touched either card when the roses arrived--they had no idea what might be on them--but it was an added safety measure. One could never be too careful, with things like this, after all.

After returning the original back to its place next to its twin, she picked up the copy and returned to the second parlour where Lucius was waiting. As he wrapped it in a hankerchief and tucked it inside his cloak, she donned hers and they apparated to Hogsmeade.

The air outside the Shrieking Shack was cold and damp, the dead of night leaching away the slight warmth of the early evening. Lucius cast a quiet lumos, pushing back the pitch blackness and confirming what they already knew. No one was around at this hour. The whole village was dark and silent, sleeping unaware.

Their suspicions confirmed, Lucius and Narcissa apparated back to Malfoy Manor. There, they grabbed the body, and immediately returned to the same spot outside the Shrieking Shack. This time, they worked in complete darkness, arranging the body on the steps of the Shrieking Shack and tucking the calling card into the pocket of Dawlish’s jacket, just enough peeking out to catch the attention of whoever found him.

That done, they returned once more to Malfoy Manor to sleep the deep sleep of the soundly satisfied.
