One would have expected that living so close to your ex would be awkward, but actually Jun quite liked it. She liked Cedric and got on with him well, which automatically made all of this less awkward. There wasn't any bitterness, at least on her part, towards him. The baby hadn't been planned, obviously, but Jun had chosen to keep her, in many respects because of the sort of person Cedric was. She knew he'd make a good dad and whilst they would probably sooner or later have disagreements on how one should rise a child, Jun also thought that those would be disagreements both of them would be able to settle. Hopefully.
Today Cedric was coming over for Mother's Day. Jun found the whole thing strange. She loved Mother's Day, because her and her siblings always went over to their parents house, had a nice lunch, chatted, drank tea. Jun didn't quite know what to do with the fact that she now was someone who celebrated Mother's Day because she was a mother. Two months was still very early to have adapted to the idea of being a mother. Tomorrow she was going over to her mum's, taking Cathy with her, because Cedric hadn't asked for her. If he had, Jun would have let him have her, because she wasn't actually too bothered. Obviously her mum and dad and siblings would want to see Cathy, but it wasn't like they were in short supply of time. Cedric's mum loved and fussed over Cathy as much as Jun's did. Whenever Jun had invited her over for tea, Helen did her best to sign at Jun. At no point had Jun asked or expected Helen to learn sign but it did make her feel a bit warm inside that Helen was trying. It was probably a good thing Jun found it so easy to get on with Cedric's mum.
So no, she wouldn't have objected to Cedric taking Cathy to see Helen on Mothering Sunday but as it was, he hadn't asked and Jun hadn't offered. Instead she was making tea when the lights flashed orange, indicating that Cedric was at the door. She smiled at him as she let him in. "The baby's asleep," Jun signed at him, leading him into the kitchen. "I'm waking her up for feeding in about twenty minutes," she added. It was strange just how much conversation you got out of having a baby around. It was 'baby this' and 'baby that' and sometimes Jun had to remind herself that there was a lot more to her than just the girl with a baby.
"How's your week been?" Jun asked both because she did care and also because it was something to talk about that wasn't Cathy.
