In the nine years Hermione had owned Crookshanks it hadn't been very often she'd had to take the cat to the vets. There was, of course, the yearly check-ups but in general Crookshanks didn't seem to get poorly. Not today, though. No, today he'd been sick in the morning. At first Hermione had just assumed he'd eaten too fast. This happened far more often than she liked. But then, the cat had just sort of lied on the window sill. It wasn't until Hermione had heard low, pathetic noises that she'd become concerned. Hermione wasn't terribly sure how one could tell whether a cat was running a fever, but Crookshanks seemed to. So once Hermione had located a) an emergency magical vets (in Diagon) and b) a cat carrier (in the airing cupboard), she apparated them both to the vets. The lack of fight Crookshanks had given to being put in a cat carrier was also indicative of his poorly state.
This is how Sunday afternoon found Hermione with a cat carrier, a poorly cat and a receptionist who really struggled to spell 'Crookshanks' and 'Hermione'. When the woman did, finally, manage to register the cat for an appointment, she told Hermione it'd be at least a half an hour's wait. Which, truthfully, wasn't all that long. Once settled in the waiting area, Hermione frowned at Crookshanks through the bars of the cat carrier. "I'm sure the doctor will make you better," she assured the cat but didn't get much in terms of a response past more pathetic whining.
With a sigh, Hermione set the cat carrier down, glancing around her at other pet owners with emergency pet care required. That was when Hermione realised she knew one of the other owners. Draco Malfoy sat across from her with what looked like a rather sad looking kneazle. "Malfoy," Hermione greeted with a nod. Tilting her head slightly, she looked at the animal. "Is it okay?" She asked before scrunching her nose up. "Evidently not, considering our surroundings. I guess, a better question would be 'what level of not okay is it?'" She offered instead.
