Andrew Kirke ([info]dragondrums) wrote in [info]reduxpitch,
Andrew had known that Evan's last exam was on Tuesday, but as much as he would have wanted to help him celebrate, that didn't change the fact that it was his first day back at work after a long weekend </i>and</i> he'd promised Ginny and Aisling he'd be there for Mary-Anne's audition. He'd done his best to follow Ginny's instructions to make Mary-Anne feel more comfortable, but it was hard when he didn't actually know the girl. Despite his efforts, she'd seemed nervous, but that was to be expected. Her audition hadn't taken that long, but it had been followed by a band discussion to share first impressions, and that had stretched into most of Quake sitting in the living room debating the merits and meaning of the Weird Sisters' latest enigmatic press release. By the time Evan's owl arrived, the conversation had gone off any describable course, and Andrew really wouldn't be missing anything by going to fetch him.

When he apparated into Tom's house, his first thought was to wonder if Evan was playing some kind of prank. The first thing he saw was one of Axel's early posters on the wall immediately in front of him. It was only the presence a truly impressive number of what Andrew took to be Merlin College students that convinced him otherwise. He had no doubt Evan could put something like this together if he really wanted, but probably not on the last day of exams. People would have better things to do. Andrew grabbed the nearest person and shouted over the music to if they knew where Evan was. When that didn't work, he tried charades but beyond conveying that Evan was about his height and had hair, Andrew wasn't convinced he was getting his point across.

He wandered through the house, occasionally asking those who literally bumped into him if they knew where Evan was. They either didn't, or didn't understand the question. The kitchen was a little quieter, but a girl who swore blind she was in all Evan's lectures pointed Andrew towards one of the bedrooms which, when he checked, contained no one who looked remotely like Evan, or was even the correct gender. It wasn't until he returned to the living room that Andrew was recognised. Suddenly, there were people all around him, pressing in, pointing to the poster Evan had noticed earlier - Andrew was quite pleased with that one, as it happened - and fumbling for a pen. Andrew signed it, trying and failing to contain a grin, and a few architecture books (why not?) before, finally, he managed to get everyone quiet enough to try again. "Evan," he repeated. "Potter. Architecture student. Probably told you an animal fact?" Blank faces all around. That had been a long shot, at a party. Andrew decided to try a new tack. "Erzebet?" She was the only one of Evan's friends Andrew could remember the name of, and he just hoped she was here. Even if she wasn't with Evan, she'd at least recognise his name and that would be a step in the right direction.

A drink was pressed into his hand while someone ran through all the Elizabeth's they knew, asking if any of those might be who Andrew was looking for. Someone else was insistently grabbing at his arm, trying to pull him further into the living room. Normally, Andrew would have stopped them but there was some slight chance they were trying to lead him to Erzebet and Andrew had just missed them saying so. "Oh my god!" someone shouted. "Quake!"
