Higgs listened to Alicia's reply, nodding in all the right places as he ate. It made sense that she didn't find it interesting. If anything, Higgs suspected to her the work was a lot more boring than to him, since at least Higgs went out in the field, which in turn offered a change of scenery. He wasn't sure he would cope very well being tied to a desk. Paperwork had never been something Higgs particularly liked, not to say that he thought Alicia did. When one imagined working in law enforcement, they very rarely imagined the amount of paperwork that came with it, wrongfully so. Higgs still had to do plenty of reports, but at least it wasn't only reports.
"I could support you if you wanted to just quit, you know?" Higgs told her. "Financially, I mean," he added to clarify. Perhaps it seemed odd in the sort of situation they were in currently, but Higgs had plenty of money, his and Gemma's parents certainly had never been badly off and Higgs earned enough to support himself and Alicia if she needed to. "Think about it," he said before she could rush in saying she couldn't accept his money, which Higgs suspected she would. "As much as this," Higgs waved his hand around a little. "Might be a strange arrangement at the moment," because it unquestionably was, but Higgs had no doubt it would change. They might be working at it slowly but they were married and Higgs hoped that wasn't going to ever change. "I am your husband and I would be happy to support you until you find a job you like," he explained.
At her question about his work, Higgs gave a small sigh. He wasn't really sure why he didn't just quit, not when he was encouraging Alicia to do so. A sense of duty, maybe, but mostly, Higgs suspected, he didn't dare to imagine what he would do if he didn't have a job to go to almost every morning. He'd worked steadily from the day he had graduated Hogwarts, not having that in his life seemed odd and marginally dangerous. "I'm not sure," he told her honestly. "Pippa offered to discuss my options with me, but then she fell ill so we haven't really gotten around to it," Higgs explained with a shrug. He'd always found that him and Pippa thought very similarly, which often allowed for their discussions to flow in a way that Higgs found incredibly helpful.
