The fact that Terence needed things in his life outside of her was the reason Alicia never said anything about them. Being in the army had been isolating for the both of them, and she was genuinely glad that he was so involved in his friends and his sister. He must have missed them, and for the time they'd been together and then married, most of his leave had been devoted to her. So it was great that he had a plate full of things and only a fraction of it belonging to her.
None of that changed, however, the feeling that she wasn't quite sure where she fit in all his plans for the future. Alicia knew exactly where she wanted to be, knew exactly where she wanted him to fit in her future, but she didn't know what he wanted with her. That was why she was especially bothered whenever he talked about the house with Marcus. Not because he wasn't currently living with her, but that it felt a little like he wasn't planning on it at all. Like he thought it would take years, if it happened. Building a house and filling it with your things, that implied longevity and commitment, however informal that commitment was. It implied to Alicia that no matter what she did, he didn't see them living together. And that kind of hurt.
That was just one of many things she needed to talk to a professional about. In fact, the things she knew she needed to talk about to someone other than Terence or her sister was such an extensive list that she'd actually written a physical list to keep in her bag so she wouldn't forget anything. Some of it had to do with her husband, but most of it was just about her. The depression, her self-worth, the inability to truly trust others, her dislike for her job and the apparent lack of purpose in her life--they were all things she knew she needed to work on and work out, partly so that she could finally be a good wife, but also so that she could be a strong and independent person outside of her marriage.
"Honestly? Incredibly anxious," she replied, winding some noodles around her fork. "But I know I need to, and I met with this one on Friday and she seemed open, so I'm hopeful that it'll work out with her."
