Absence of Desire
She doesn’t want him.
He knows that, even as he takes advantage of her surprise and natural tendency to compliance and kisses her. Lips accustomed to taking moving against those too used to submission to tighten against the onslaught.
She doesn’t want him.
He wishes he didn’t want her, wishes it didn’t matter to him that he can almost see her longing for the one who left her shining in the tears welling up in her eyes as he holds her in his arms, the arms of a demon, but not the demon she wishes it was.
She doesn’t want him.
That might be a good thing. After all, he came back here to help Buffy, the girl he’s been telling himself he still loves ever since he was somehow liberated from Hell. She’s the one he wants, must want, since she’s the one who cost him his soul, and that has to mean something - has to mean that theirs is a love for the ages, a love that even hellfire can’t burn away. So why is he kissing Willow?
She doesn’t want him.
Yet he doesn’t want to stop, and she doesn’t fight him, so he keeps on kissing her. He knows this can’t go where he desperately wants it to, though the demon inside him yearns to see if she’d let him take her, longs to punish her for this absence of desire he can taste on her tongue.
She doesn’t want him.
He finally releases her, pretends to stumble through some sad puppy dog of an excuse just to rob her of the freedom to hate him as she wants to do, has a right to do, then he lets her walk away. But he’ll never let her go.
The End.
