Seth could smell his own blood. It tangs sharply in the air with metals he could name if he bothers to remember them, but it seems like too much effort at the moment. He isn't really drunk, as far as he can tell. It would be silly to be drunk off as little as he's had so far. He prefers to think of himself as a blur. Everything is warmer and softer like this, except for when he chokes down some of the half bottle of gin he's keeping in the refrigerator. He supposes he should be glad he can reach even that.
His severed ring finger keeps staring up at him from the floor, and Seth keeps looking at it, fascinated and sickened at the same time. That had been a part of him a few hours (hours?) ago, the flesh of his flesh, and now he had to imagine it was already starting to rot by degrees. The butcher's knife he'd done it with still gleamed on the kitchenette counter, but Seth doesn't look at it. Looking at it is besides the point. His hand is knotted tightly around the towel he's using to staunch the flow of his blood, and he can guess that once he does pry it off it's going to flare with even more pain as newly formed scabs tear around foreign fibers. He knows that from his leg now in a cast. They say he might walk with a limp for the rest of his life. Now he'll never play piano the same way again either.
Seth believes in Hell. He believes in punishment. He's cut off his own finger to offend his brother's eye, and lo, he still has motes in his own. That has to be why his eyes keep leaking.
He takes another burning shot of alcohol before he notices another mind approaching their room, one that stands out in an ache brighter than most of the people Seth has ever brushed against. He fumbles the bottle one-handed back into the refrigerator and closes it as quietly as he can, attuned to the door that Jonah slammed behind him but didn't lock.
