WHO: Gary & OPEN
WHAT: Driving without keys, apparently
WHERE: Streets of Red Oak
WHEN: Nov. 14, Evening
RATING: G/PG
They had left him in the car. Again. In regards to safety, that wasn't a decision of contention and was, in fact, quite the strategic move considering Gary could track everything that was going on from wherever he happened to be sitting. While they were running around like chickens, he could track cell phone communications, e-mails, even a key code punched into a door that was relayed to an electronic locking mechanism under supposed fool proof security, and he could easily relay the information when asked for it.
The annoyance, as Gary was quick to make known, was their unwillingness to let him drive the vehicle. Despite everything in his confidence that said he could, despite the hours spent watching videos and reading up on the mechanics of a car, as well as the workings of most standard engines, Dr. Rosen, his mother, and even the rest of the Alphas had taken the same stance: No. Gary couldn't drive and, as time was slowly proving, Gary seemed likely to never drive despite being of legitimate age to.
"We're going to need to move the car." He finally proclaimed after a moment of staring out the window, appearing to stare off into space when he was focused primarily on the blue and voilet waves that came from one building and went right into another, or shot up from someone standing on the sidewalk, straight from their cellphone, to whoever just so happened to be on the receiving end. Something about 'date night' and 'wearing that one red dress', details which Gary took at face value and didn't think anything more about since they weren't particularly important.
What was important was the radio signal provided by a communication link hooked up to Harken which had led him to that eventual conclusion the car would have to be moved. The request, for the moment, had seemed to fall on the deaf ears of Nina because, as expected, she knew it to be a segue into an ever-present request. Gary's attention snapped over and true to history, only one question came out of his mouth: "Can I drive this time?"
The answer was a resounding 'no', especially when Nina found good enough means to leave him there, taking the keys with her. Honestly, he would have tried to drive if he had them, but for now, he would settle for climbing in the front sit, sitting behind the wheel, and placing his hands at the proper places - ten-and-two - had he actually been driving, but that was only entertaining for so long. While his cohorts were completing their mission duties, Gary decided it was prime time for a nap. Nine-thirty in the evening was his bedtime, sure, but it wasn't like there was much else to do to occupy his time than read personal e-mails and watch YouTube videos he had very little social understanding of.
When he awoke, he had expected to find himself still in that car, in the same alleyway, with his fellow Alphas in (hopefully) good health considering the scuffles. Gary, however, wasn't. In fact, as he read through a few more electromagnetic waves primarily stemming from a local online community, he realized he was in Red Oak, Delaware and he wasn't exactly alone considering Rachel's name popped up numerous times in relation to the Red Oak Police Department.
That was where he'd have to go and, unfortunately, he would have to walk, Gary stepping out of the vehicle only to look around with wide eyes. Outwardly, he didn't show it, but inwardly, he wasn't sure whether to get aggravated about it or upset. Just some poor lost boy with a brainful of transducing abilities and nothing to go off on but the chatter of strangers.
