“Micah!”
Even through the cold weather, even though that Niki was no longer inside the Linderman building, her voice still shrieked out the name of her son. Niki was unsure of what happened, but the next thing she knew she was somewhere else, somewhere unfamiliar and strange. She stumbled around, her face holding an expression of fear and anxiety as she fought to control her emotions, her sanity slipping by the minute as she continued to wander around without actually knowing where to go.
What had happened? She had been looking for her son and now she was somewhere else. Niki wondered if maybe this was a trick, some kind of game someone was playing on her mind. None of this seemed real and the more Niki walked the more she began to realize that she was nowhere near New York – she was nowhere near her family. Everything had vanished, disappearing without and trace, leaving Niki behind to fester in the unknown.
“Hello?” Niki called out, her voice now helpless as her body strained. She was tired, her body feeling the exhaustion seeping through which had slowed down her movements considerably. She stopped without realizing, her body coming to rest on a lamp post as her mind struggled with the choices she needed to make.
“You’re pathetic – why are you resting? Get a move on. You’re not going to get anything done by stopping. This is exactly why things like this happen to you.”
The voice of Jessica echoed through her skull, reminding Niki that she wasn’t entirely by herself after all. Niki nearly groaned, ignoring her other half for the moment in order to rest her legs. She did her best not to believe in Jessica’s words but at the same time she wondered if perhaps they were true. Maybe she was being pathetic by deciding to rest.
