WHO: Jack Sloper and Wayne Hopkins
WHEN: Saturday, December 8, 1998; Sunday, December 9, 1998
WHERE: Gay Bar in London; Wayne’s flat
WHAT: Going to see Alan’s drag show
RATING: NSFW
When Wayne met Jack before heading to the bar, there was a nervous expression on his face. It melted as soon as he saw Jack and turned into a smile. He hugged Jack despite himself. As they neared the bar though, Wayne seemed to hesitate. The nervousness resurfaced and he felt himself grow panicky. He walked into the bar quicker than necessary, standing in the entrance, almost in a state of shock. After a moment of staring blankly at the room, Wayne grabbed Jack’s hand and headed toward the bar. He ordered a beer and as soon as it was in his hand, he tilted his head back and drank it down. Setting the glass on the counter, he looked down at his and Jack’s hands and realized he was squeezing it. Wayne let go, wiping his hand on his jeans.
Jack raised an eyebrow at Wayne’s panicked behavior. He couldn’t decide whether he should cancel their plans and go somewhere else or just go through with it all. He looked at Wayne and smiled at him. “Hey, you okay?” He asked. “If this is too much we can go.”
“Sorry, I’m alright, I’ll be alright,” Wayne nodded, licking his lips. He asked for another beer, but didn’t chug this one. Leaning in close so Jack could hear him, Wayne continued speaking. “I can’t live in fear my whole life. It’s not like anyone here is going to hurt me. Hell, they’d beat anyone who dared with their heels.” He smiled, sipping from the mug.
Jack laughed. “Yeah I think that was part of the appeal of this. If there was anywhere in London where you could feel safe holding my hand it would be here. Though if I were a hate mongering arsehole I would pick other blokes than you and I to take on. I mean we don’t have high heels to beat anyone with, but I wouldn’t want to fight us.” He grinned hoping that Wayne saw humor in the joke.
Wayne shook his head, looking down, and chuckled. “But it won’t happen, thankfully,” he bit his lip as if trying to convince himself of that more than Jack. He didn’t want to continue the thread of conversation. “Do you want one?” He indicated the beer.
“Are you trying to get me tipsy to seduce me?” He teased. “Yeah I’ll have one.” He grinned and nudged Wayne with his shoulder. He gestured to the bartender.
“I don’t need to do that in order to seduce you,” Wayne smirked, raising his eyebrows at Jack.
Jack raised an eyebrow back. “No I don’t suppose that you do.” He grinned glad to see Wayne at least slightly more at ease. He took his beer with a word of thanks to the bartender and sipped it.

Alan spotted Wayne and Jack. It looked like they were in conversation with a third person, but Wayne was the one talking. Alan gave a slight wave of his hand to get Jack’s attention. As soon as he got it, he held his hand in front of his face and stuck his tongue to his cheek, causing it to poke out. He raised an eyebrow and nodded toward Wayne.
Jack smiled as he saw Alan and he gave a little wave. His eyes got big and his jaw dropped as he recognized the gesture that Alan was pantomiming. He furrowed his brow and shook his head no as a blush crept in on his cheeks.
Alan sort of rolled his eyes and stomped his foot. “Why?” he mouthed.
Jack laughed silently. “Not yet.” he mouthed back.
Alan pointed at Jack, then pointed to Wayne. He stepped with his feet apart as if he were in a saddle and bent his knees slightly. With one hand he made the motion of grabbing hair and with the other he made a smacking motion. At that moment, Wayne finished talking and turned just as Alan dropped his arms, giving the other boy a slight wave and a smile.
Jack flushed red at the gestures, but that quickly faded to a laugh as Alan was caught. Jack smirked as Alan stopped his shenanigans.
Wayne wasn’t sure what was going on between the two except that Jack was blushing and Alan had that look on his face. Alan took a few steps closer so they’d be able to hear one another over the music. Wayne gave Alan a once over look.
“How the fuck do you walk in those?” he asked. He couldn’t really tell where the actual shoe because of the fuzzy things on Alan’s shins, but what he could see were tiny wedges of shiny black. Alan turned his heel to better show the shoe.
“Lots of practice, Love,” he said, leaning forward and winking conspiratorially.
“Oh well, you were great. Fun show.”
“Thank you!” Alan grinned, bouncing slightly on his toes, a motion that further baffled Wayne. Alan was nearly the same height as him.
Jack looked at the shoes. He hadn’t really noticed them until Wayne pointed them out. Bloody hell. He tilted his head to the side and lifted an eyebrow in a confused expression. It had always baffled him that anyone was able to walk like that. Then again there was a lot about Alan that was baffling at the moment. He’d never seen anyone he knew before in drag. He wondered if Alan had ever dressed like that around Wayne when they were dating. He had gotten the impression that it wasn’t something Wayne was that into. Jack was glad. Alan made a pretty girl, but it wasn’t his thing. He realized with a start that he was starting to figure out finally what his thing was, and what it wasn’t. That was sort of refreshing. He seemed lost in thought as the other boys made small talk.
Wayne’s attention wandered to Jack. There was something about his expression that was irresistible. Wrapping his arms around the other boy’s shoulders, Wayne planted a kiss on the side of his face. It was a happy gesture and Wayne didn’t seem to realize where he was for a moment. Sheepishly, he dropped his arms and smiled at Jack.
Alan made a noise between a grunt and a groan. “You two are sickening,” he teased, with a smile. Someone called to him and Alan gave Jack and Wayne each a quick peck on the cheek, leaving red lip marks, before walking away.
Jack was so pleasantly floored by Wayne’s kiss on the cheek he barely registered Alan leaving. This clearly had been a good idea. It meant so much to Jack that Wayne would kiss him, however innocently, in public. It warmed his heart to see Wayne healing finally from the attack. He was so happy to be a part of it. He looked Wayne in the eyes and smiled. He laughed as he noticed the lipstick on Wayne’s cheek. “You’ve got a little something on your cheek.” He wiped it away with a gentle brush of his thumb. “There much better.”
“So do you,” Wayne laughed, wiping the mark from Jack’s face in a similar manner. His hand lingered on Jack’s jawline. Maybe it was because of the alcohol in his system, the dim lights, the loud music, or the mass throng of people around them doing similar things, Wayne couldn’t be sure the reason. All he knew was at that moment he wanted to kiss Jack and the consequences could be damned. Stepping closer, he pulled Jack toward him and kissed him full on the lips.
Jack’s arms snaked instinctively around Wayne’s waist as they kissed. It was a brief kiss, but it warmed him down to his toes. His emotions flooded through him. He couldn’t even begin to vocalize what the gesture symbolized. He grinned. “Let’s grab one last drink and get out of here. What do you say?”
“Sounds good to me,” Wayne smiled.

Wayne was only half conscious when he rolled over to see Jack nestled behind him. He blinked, blurry eyed at the form next to him. Propping himself on his elbow, Wayne scooted closer to Jack and wrapped an arm around his sleeping form. He started kissing the other boy, hand wandering down the length of his bare back to the top of his jeans. Wayne moved so that he was hovering over Jack, still kissing him. As things got more heated, Wayne’s hand went to Jack’s hardness, rubbing it through the fabric. At that, Wayne jerked awake and he pulled back.
“I’m so sorry,” he looked at Jack with wide eyes.
Jack was sleeping soundly. He first started to wake as an arm wrapped around him. It wasn’t unfamiliar though. Tori hadn’t been in a state to sleep alone since the attack. It wasn’t strange to him to be used as a giant teddy bear. He felt lips on his and woke up more. That definitely wasn’t Tori. The night before flowed back into his mind. They’d left the bar and come back to Wayne’s. They’d snogged, but nothing more. He realized they must have fallen asleep instead of him leaving. What a pleasant way to wake up though. As Wayne’s hands wandered he sucked in a breath in surprise. Merlin. He was startled fully awake however as Wayne pulled away. He blinked a couple of times slightly confused. “Sorry? What for?”
“I wasn’t thinking,” Wayne stated quickly, feeling embarrassed.
“Thinking about what? You have nothing to apologize for.” He cupped Wayne’s cheek in his hand.
“About your comfort, I dunno,” Wayne sighed as he laid his head back on his pillow, facing Jack. Ever since Jack stopped things after their first date, Wayne had been unsure where to go or how far to take things. “It seems longer, but it’s only been three weeks. While I trust you’ll let me know if you need me to stop, I can’t help being concerned about pushing you.”
Jack smiled softly. He put his hand on Wayne’s shoulder and squeezed it. “That means a lot, that you don’t want to push or pressure me. But don’t get too worried about it okay? And don’t think that it’s not okay to test boundaries. I’ll be ready for more and more as time goes on. A bit of wandering hands is not out of line, and frankly it was the best wake up I’ve ever received.”
Reaching up, Wayne took Jack’s hand and placed it around his waist. Wayne rolled forward to kiss Jack deeply and hug him close. He pulled back, grinning. “I’m glad you liked it.” He hoped there would be more mornings like this, waking next to one another and not having anywhere to go, being lazy. Moving closer again, Wayne placed his leg between Jack’s, wanting to continue.
“Not that I think virginity is some sacred thing, I don’t really know how to treat it, though. I gave mine up in a moment of desperation and then the first guy I was with was rather convincing. I’ve always rushed headlong into things, so I guess it’s hard for me to not think of it in terms of all or nothing.”
Jack helped Wayne scoot closer wrapping both arms around him and tracing lazy circles up and down Wayne’s spine. He captured Wayne’s lips with his, kissing him. He pulled his face back slightly to talk. “The way I see it, it’s not that big of a deal. It’s not as if I’m waiting for marriage or anything long term like that. I just want for the moment to be right, and to be with someone I love. I think that’s what’s worth waiting for. Knowing that you’re sharing the most intimate part of yourself for the first time with someone you’re completely passionately in love with.”
“You’re such a romantic,” Wayne laughed. He nuzzled close again and kissed Jack. “I think I know what you mean though...” He took a deep breath, not sure if he should continue or not, but well, he’d always been able to talk to Jack in the past. “I cared a lot for Raphael, probably more than I should have, but I don’t regret it. Not really.”
“I really am. I’m simply hopeless.” Jack laughed along. He listened, “You shouldn’t. You did what felt right for you at the time and there’s nothing wrong with that at all.” He ran his hand over Wayne’s back in slow circles.
Wayne closed his eyes as Jack traced circles on his back. He smiled, humming softly. When he opened his eyes, they were sad. “Yeah, at the time,” Wayne bit his lip. “I caught him with someone else and apparently that wasn’t the only time. Things got messy after that. I’m okay now, but every once in awhile it still stings, you know?”
Jack nodded and kissed Wayne’s cheek. “I will never do that to you, I promise. I know things looked bad at the end when I broke up with Vicky, but I’m not that way.” His eyes held the complete sincerity of what he was saying. One could have no doubt he meant what he said. “If you ever want to talk about anything, including the past, you know I’m always here for you.”
Wayne beamed when Jack kissed his cheek. It was little things like that about Jack that filled his chest with warmth and made his head fuzzy. Those were the things that made Jack a constant fixation on his mind. “I know,” was all Wayne said as he leaned forward to kiss Jack again. This time, he didn’t relent. His hand ran from Jack’s waist to the back of his thigh, pulling him closer so their hips touched.
“Mmmmmm” was all Jack could vocalize. He rolled them so that he was on top of Wayne, the length of their bodies pressed together. It was quite easy to feel just how glad Jack was to have woken up where he did. Jack gripped Wayne’s hip giving it a firm squeeze.
Wayne let out a heated breath when Jack squeezed his hip. His hands moved to firmly grasp Jack’s arse as he rubbed himself against Jack’s bulge.
Jack gasped softly and let out a shaky breath. His one hand gripped Wayne even tighter as his other balled up gripping the sheet below. He ground himself into Wayne while trailing kisses down the side of his neck.
Wrapping his arms around Jack’s waist, Wayne bucked again. The wanting was ridiculous, especially as Jack kissed along his neck. He bit his lip in frustration. His eyes squeezed shut as he tried to focus. His nails dug slightly into Jack’s back.
That was nearly Jack’s undoing. “Oh my God.” He threw his head back as Wayne’s nails sent waves of heat through him. He felt like he was on fire. He focused on breathing for a moment trying to get his body under control again before he decided the hell with boundaries and started tearing clothes off. “You know it’s probably a good thing we’re waiting, because you can bloody nearly make me lose it just like this,” he said breathily. “I’m going to have to build up some much better control.” He grinned and kissed Wayne again.
Wayne started to apologize, but stopped himself because of what Jack said earlier. Instead, he gave the other boy a mischievous smile. “Guess I shouldn’t do that again, huh?” He returned the kiss. His own body was still on fire. There was nothing he could do about it short of kicking Jack out his bed and out the door. He wanted Jack so badly. It was driving him insane. The pain was worth it though and he had to keep telling himself that as his body screamed at him to go further.
Jack grinned. “Oh no, don’t you dare. That was hotter than a mouth full of pepper imps.” He continued to test both of their resolve for several more minutes before having to call a halt to it. He stood from the bed and pulled Wayne along with him. “Come on, I’m taking you to breakfast, before I lose my mind.” He teased.
Wayne groaned jokingly as he was pulled from the bed. He quickly pecked Jack on the lips before stepping toward his dresser. He pulled out a clean shirt and put it on. “Would you like a shirt that doesn’t smell like booze and cigarette smoke?” he laughed.
“Merlin yes.” He said. “I didn’t even think about it, but yeah, I’d rather not run around smelling of day old smoke.” He grinned as another thought crossed his mind. “Plus as an added bonus it will smell like you.”
Wayne hadn’t even realized that fact. He licked his lips as he reached in the drawer again and pulled out another shirt. Tossing it to Jack, Wayne tried to hide the fact that his face felt flush. It all seemed so intimate. Waking beside one another, now Jack would be wearing one of his shirts...
Jack pulled the shirt on, but he caught the flush to Wayne’s cheeks. “Hey you okay?” he said taking a couple of steps toward the other boy.
Seeing Jack wearing his shirt gave Wayne the same warm feeling that kisses on the cheek did. It made him feel lightheaded. He closed the drawer, realizing he’d been staring at it intently, and turned to Jack. “Yeah, I’m just hungry,” he smiled, but his eyes were distant. Closing the gap between the two, Wayne kissed Jack. It was different than it had been on the bed, more tender and less urgent. His hands gently caressed the other boy’s back.
That look in Wayne’s eyes did something to Jack. There was no denying that they had been really good friends, and that there was powerful chemistry between them, but this was something more. He felt his heart speed up in a different way than before. He touched Wayne’s cheek with the back of his fingers and smiled. It was the smile of someone who was falling and not even realizing it. A smile of pure happiness. The kiss chased every last bit of worry from Jack’s mind. In that moment there was nothing wrong with the world, nothing at all.
Wayne took both of Jack’s hands in his and brought them to his lips, kissing his knuckles. Right then, he only wanted to revel in Jack’s presence. He would have kissed his lips again, but the smile on Jack’s face was so perfect, Wayne didn’t want it to go away. It occurred to him that he wanted nothing more than for that smile to return again and again, whether he was the cause of it or not. His heart pounded.
Jack didn’t want to move. He wanted to stay where he was forever, gazing into Wayne’s eyes, his heart near bursting in his chest. But it was then his stomach chose to growl at them. He laughed and poked his belly. “Hush you.” He said to it. He looked back up at Wayne with a grin.
Wayne laughed, feeling as though he’d been pulled out of a trance. “You’re adorable,” he mumbled before grabbing Jack’s hand and leading him toward the door and down the stairs. “Come on, let’s get you fed.”
Jack welcomed the feel of Wayne’s hand in his as they moved downstairs. He threw on his coat and scarf quickly, and was ready to go.
