I seemed to have acquired a dog. It began to follow me home and would not stop even when I tried to shoo it away. It's now getting its hair all over my Turkish rug.

You have to keep that dog. It loves you. It will be your best friend.

Yes, exactly.

But it is giving me a look. I do not like it. I should not be feeling guilty over an animal.

It sort of looks like a cat.

The hands are much too large to be a cat.

You're right.

Still, looks small enough to be one.

A racoon is small as well, but you don't see me conflating them.

Is conflating like inflating?

con·flate
kənˈflāt/

Thank you, definitely not the same. Upside down e is an o sound, that's also riveting.

Anatomically they are completely different animals, cats and dogs.

Ears, paws, tails and hair.

First of all, fur not hair.
Second, cats have retractable claws unlike dogs.
Third, cats have a predominantly carnivorous diet. Dogs are further on the omnivorous scale.
Fourth, I am no longer debating this.
