Jan 15 - Post Match
The first match of the tournament for the Firehawks wasn’t exactly a showcase of their prowess. Tensions were varying as they made their way back to the locker room. Roger Davies had lingered behind congratulating the other team with handshakes and sportsmanship praise. Being the last to the locker room he took a moment for himself. Despite the tension in his shoulders he closed his eyes and took in a deep breath. Exhaling slowly to calm his nerves helped a bit. He ran through a series of affirmations and positive mindset adjustments before he faced the team. While a younger Davies might have kicked the door in and thrown something, he’d learned a bit over the years. “Welp,” he greeted as he opened the door, “On the bright side, mates, we’re not gettin’ paid for that one.” His tone was disappointed, but not accusatory. If anything it sounded almost friendly. Cassius was standing nearest to the door cleaning his broom as Davies came in. A low almost mocking laugh escaped him. “Sure Capt.” He didn’t even look up from his broom. Reading the laugh as genuine Roger smirked, "Seriously, though, everyone did … good for a first match given the circumstances." Roger proceeded to make acknowledgments around the room. Offering eye contact where it was returned. "Spinnet and Warrington pulled out 17 goals between ya. Wood saved our ass time and again - thanks for that, mate. Bole and Capper had a good hustle throughout.” Keanna turned to Oliver Wood next to her and mouthed “Capper” at them. “And Higgs … gave a nice performance to the end." Roger patted Terence on the back as he passed but continued his casual speech. "We've definitely got some things to work on, but … now that we've had a proper run, we'll be better prepared next time, yeah?" Keanna looked back over to Roger with a skeptical look. “Oh, come on, you’re disappointed.” “And you can just say that I’m too old for this shit,” Terence said, craning his back until an audible ‘pop’ echoed through the locker room. “No sense in trying to dress it up. There’s a reason I hung up the broom after Hogwarts. There’s a reason most of us did,” Terence said, gesturing to the rest of the team. For once, Cormac didn’t have much to say, just sitting back and listening to everyone else. He wasn’t even sure why he was here. Riding the bench, he guessed. He nodded at Higgs’ words, quietly agreeing with his roommate. Snorting slightly, Cass nodded his head towards Terence. “Alright, fine!” Roger threw up his hands and shrugged dramatically, “We all played like shit. Is that what you want me to say?” “It’s a hell of a lot more honest,” Terence said, smirking even as he had to lower himself down onto the bench as his muscles were starting to cramp in protest. “But if we’re being fair, we were up against two siblings who probably know each other’s moves inside and out, Golden Boy Potter, and a dead man, so…” “Yeah, dead guys gotta be it,” Roger nodded and grinned in sarcastic fashion as he made his way to his own locker. A head shake and chuckle followed. “It wasn’t that bad.” Alicia commented. “Some of us are just out of practice, and it’s not like any of us asked for this to happen. I think you’re putting a lot of pressure and expectations right out the gate considering we’ve been kidnapped and forced to perform for Merlin knows who and for whatever reason. They didn’t give us much time to get back into the swing of things.” Alicia just shrugged, ending her part of the conversation there and headed to get herself cleaned up. Snorting again Cassius looked over at Terence. “Way to upset Spinnet,” he joked. Roger bit his tongue to keep from chuckling as he opened his locker and began removing his pads. “Just be ready for a more structured practice this week, is all I’m saying.” |
