Q: Why do I have to join ~Quibblercons to see your icons/layouts? A: Because bitches don't credit. Mind, they still don't credit, but I want them to. It's not that hard to point at where you found a resource so that others can find it too.
Q: Why didn't you let me join? A: You commented but didn't read the rules, you commented but didn't actually click to join the asylum, or you never commented at all.
Q: Will you affiliate with me? A: If you make PB icons and/or journal layouts, most likely, yes! Comment to this entry, the comments are screened.
Q: Why do I have to credit? A: Two reasons; a) I donated my time to make a free resource and would like simple attribution, and b) so that if anyone likes the look of your icons or layout, they can find who made them. If you're that lazy - or that rude - where you can't just give a simple link, you'd better be ashamed about it. :(
Q: May I use your icons/layouts on another site? A: Sure! If you do, you need to provide a link back to ~Quibblercons. If you're using them on another site, I'm not guaranteeing that they'll look/function the same, and if they need to be modified dramatically, you'll need to do it yourself.
Q: Can I modify your icons/layouts for my own personal use? A: Yes. I still would like you to include a credit, although if you want to amend it to say something like "Base by ~Quibblercons, Modified by me!" that's a-okay. With layouts, you must also keep the link back to ~Quibblercons in the stylesheet.
Q: Can I modify your icons/layouts and redistribute them? A: This is iffier territory. If you've dramatically changed them, yes with the same rules as above. If all you've done is change a hair color or a background image, nooooo.
Q: Will you make me icons/a layout? A: I will if you want to pay me for my time, have something to barter with, or if you're one of my good friends. Otherwise, probably not.
Q: Will you update your old set of Blank McBlankerson? A: Ummmm, maybe? You can always ask. I don't delete my old sets even though I cringe at the seriously shitty quality of them, just because I hate when I want to use a set that I know used to exist and the icon maker has taken them down. In an ideal world I would go back and redo the awful icons, but in all honesty I probably won't unless I know someone really wants to use that person as a PB and there aren't any good quality icons.
resources
Q: Where do you get your screencaps? A: There have been a lot of places over the years, many of which have closed. Give these a try, see if they're still running by the time you click 'em!
Q: Will you help me edit one of your layouts to make it the way I want it? A: I'm usually available to help with troubleshooting (see that section if that's the issue!) but redesign, no. I will however offer you these resources:
Q: How do I credit icons? A: When uploading an icon, include "<lj user="quibbercons">" in the keyword or comment.
Q: How do I credit layouts? A: When editing your profile, include "Layout by <lj user="quibbercons">" in the bio section.
Q: How do I "rehost" images? A: Firstly, you save the images. If it's for a layout, I provide the urls to the images for you to view and save. After you've saved them, log into wherever you host images (your own website, photobucket, imgshack, any image host is fine), and upload the saved images. In the codes for the layouts, find the original URLs for the images, and replace them with the URLs of where you have hosted the images. Voila, rehosted! For icons, save the icons you want to use (or save the whole batch using the save images or down them all add ons), and upload them from from the folder they're saved in on your computer, rather than pasting the url.
Q: Why the hell do I have to go to all that trouble? A: So you don't overload my free photobucket account. I'm not paying for it, so if it exceeds the bandwidth and the images go down, your layout goes down with them.
other questions
Q: Who are you? A: My name is Nell. I'm a graphic designer and like to roleplay. If you need the former, yes I do freelance work (just comment with how to get in touch!), and if you need the latter, check out ~igpayatinlay.
Q: What House would you be in? A: I say Hufflepuff, Pottermore says Ravenclaw.
Q: Where do you RP? A: Check ~igpayatinlay! I always have a roster there with my past and present characters, as well as what I'm wanting to play.
Q: What's the best cupcake ever? Where do I find the best pizza in the Northwest? A: Trophy Cupcakes in Seattle makes a Strawberry Lemonade cupcake that is a-ma-zing. For pizza in Seattle I suggest anything from Serious Pie (I like the tomato basil at happy hour) but if you're willing to travel for it, Waterfront Pizza in Port Townsend makes the best pizza I've ever tasted, including Chicago and NYC - blasphemous maybe, but also true. You need to order a whole pizza to go from downstairs and be prepared to be really wary of this recommendation, but this is about the pizza, not the service or decor.
Q: What happened to Rawr Caps? None of your links to their site work. A: They closed shop! :( I'd link to their livejournal/twitter/tumblr but it's deleted as well. Sorry to all who ran it, and thank you for your caps, they were lovely!
Q: You didn't answer my question. A: Please ask it! All comments are screened, and as long as you're not being rude, I'm definitely a nice, nerdy, fun person who's happy to answer questions.
troubleshooting & customization bloggish
Q: How do I make my link list? A: Visit your links list page, follow the instructions to add and name urls.
Q: How do I title/subtitle my journal? A: Visit the customize journal page.
Q: My layout is all kinds of messed up with weird colors and things in the wrong place. Halp? A: On the look and feel page, make sure you're using Bloggish as the Layout, and that the Theme is set to None.
Q: The topbar is below the entries! A: On the custom options page, make sure you've set the sidebar to display on the left.
Q: The entries are tiny and in the sidebar, and the sidebar is huge, where the entries should be! A: On the custom options page, reverse whatever you've set the side bar to. Or, if it's a layout with left and right sidebar options, go get the other set of custom codes.
Q: The custom comment pages (and/or other paid features) look awful! How can I fix them? A: Up until 2012 I didn't have a paid account, so I didn't have the option of viewing this feature on pre-2012 layouts, and therefore didn't style them. Your first option is to disable custom comment pages (it's a drop down selector on the custom options page). Your second is to comment to the layout you want to have pretty custom comment pages, and then be patient while I get to fixing them.
Q: How do I get rid of ______? A: Find the section of code that pertains to what you want to remove, then add "display: none !important;" to that section. Here is a really awesome guide (with pictures!) to which sections of code pertain to what, for the Bloggish layout.
Q: How do I add ______? A: If you're looking to add in metadata pictures, or rss feed links, or banners/headers, or default icons in the sidebar (which I almost always automatically remove as a personal preference), you want to find those sections of code (use the guide from the question above), and remove "display: none !important;". If it looks awful, there's likely a reason for that - I never styled it to be there.
