Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Characters: Annalisa and Bryce Derrik
Date: 01 September 2004
Location: Derrik Manor, West Sussex
Status/Warning: Private/R- Sexual content, language, semi-violence
Summary: Annalisa is getting ready to go out but nothing's ever easy in the Derrik household
Completion: In-Progress

Annalisa was riffling through her closet, dropping clothes haphazardly around her as she pulled things out, held them up, and discarded them. She was tired, exhausted really, from working out and practicing all day. All she wanted to do was get a drink and relax, if only she could figure out what to wear first. If it weren't for the fact that she could pretty much guarantee that the press would be around if they went anywhere worth going, she wouldn't have cared. But she didn't want to show up in the dailies tomorrow with her hair in a messy ponytail sporting grass-stained sweats.

When she heard someone come into the room she poked her head out the door to find Bryce and gave him a quick smile. "Hey are you getting ready?" she asked, glancing at the clothes he wore- he was still dressed for work. "We're going out tonight, remember?"

Sure, she'd considered the fact that it was a Tuesday but what did that really matter? She wanted a drink. In fact, Tuesday just meant that the bars would be less full of people. A nice quiet night out- now there would be a change.

As she turned back to her robes she could be heard grumbling, "'got too many damn clothes."

He muttered 'bitch' back at her, though the tone was light, almost as if making a joke. He was a bastard and so was she--they thrived off of it and he didn't bother to make apologies for it. Bryce hardly missed the glare she threw at him, nor did he care. She didn't go for the touch and Phase two officially failed (not that he was surprised), he was cranky.

Moving to shrug his shoulders the muscles flexed as he flung back his shirt and worked to take the material off. Bryce turned away from Annalisa to toss it into her dirty hamper, not bothering that his own closet was on the other side of the room. The elf didn't care which side of the room it was on, he wouldn't either.

Reaching up to slide off the tie, he bundled it up and tossed it haphazardly out the doorway into the bedroom falling too many feet too short of the bed at which he'd been aiming. "I didn't apparate straight from my office dear. There was the client, then the secretary, and then the stupid assistant of a kid. I should fire him." He muttered the last bit, almost violent at the words as he worked harshly at his belt, as if removing it with vigor would somehow make up for his terrible day.

"Then go--have a good time." His voice was snide and cranky as he not quite looked over at her.

Annalisa rolled her eyes though a smile tugged at her lips. It was typical banter for them, though neither were exactly joking, it was almost endearing. Almost. Anna had always found something comforting about the fact that Bryce was an ass. He wasn't perfect, he wore his flaws out for anyone to see and it took the pressure off of her to be perfect too. So what if she was a bitch? It was like an excuse to mess up.

She watched him with interest and bitterness as he took his shirt off and worked at the rest of his clothes.

"That's not going home, that's going to the office. What'd the kid do?" She only vaguely had an idea of who he was talking about.

"Bryce! You said you'd go out with me." It clearly meant nothing to him though. She sighed and tossed the shirt she was holding to the back of the closet before following him out of the bedroom, bitter and disappointed and feeling more than a little selfish.

Marriage had perks, he had to admit that; being able to undress in front of a person with little to no self-consciousness was a largely under-appreciated one. He'd never been particularly self-conscious before; still it was nice to know that he could remove his trousers without having to even think about the fact there was another being in the room with him, especially one that was following him as he tried to strip. That normally got the attention of anyone, he didn't care--it was his wife.

Grumbling something under his breath, just low enough he knew she couldn't hear him, Bryce finished with his slacks and moved to fold them meticulously, setting them down on the mattress as he glared over at her. "Again, as stated, that was before I got kicked in the shin. Exhibit, A." Turning then, he gestured down slightly raising his leg to mark the purpling bruise emphasized on the bone of his calf. The woman wore wicked heels, he didn't like her.

Anna didn't take much notice of his undressing- it was something she'd seen time and time again and it wasn't going to do her any good right now. He was crabby and was ticked off. What she did notice was the way he folded his pants, as if the elves wouldn't take care of them for him. She nearly rolled her eyes again.

"What was that darling, I couldn't hear you," she said in a sing-song voice. She didn't care about the glare, it was just another of those things that she'd seen time and time again. "Did you take a pain potion?" she asked, raising a brow. The bruise looked nasty but it wasn't the end of the world.

"You used to be a beater- you can't tell me that this is the worst you've ever had," she told him, moving to examine it more closely.

"Oh fudge off." Bryce nearly rolled his eyes, she could be such a tit when she wanted to be--which was nearly all the time. "And it's a bloody bruise not a stab wound." Which, he realized, was in direct opposition to what he was trying to prove, but he didn't care. He didn't need a damn pain potion for his leg, it was a bruise.

"Ten years ago!" Not that he really wanted to reminded of his age. Twenty-eight in a little over a week. Thirty just around the corner, he was not pleased with the reminder.

His chin jerked up as he looked away from her, moving to sit on the bed next to his folded up trousers. "Go. Have a good time, come back drunk and tell me all about the tabloids you made." He'd go make the elf get more beer and have his own mini-party at him, without the missus.

And Phase Three.

Fail.

Fudge off? She raised a brow but she wasn't going to touch the comment. Anna rolled her eyes and put her hands on her hips, ignoring the fact that she wasn't dressed at all. "Exactly, it's just a bruise. I don't see why it should stop us from having a good time tonight!" He was being such a baby about this and it was driving her crazy.

Damn... was it really ten years that he'd left Hogwarts? Mentally, she counted in her head. Yup. Wow. That was... weird. "So what, you've turned into a nancy since then?" she shot back, used to team-teasing and not really worry about the fact that Bryce wasn't a team member anymore.

"Stop telling me what to do!" she finally snapped, her teasing comments turning into yelling. "I don't want to go!" Not anymore, not with him demanding it and not alone. "And I don't like the tabloids and you damn well know it. It's not my fault you were a fucking ass to someone and they kicked you- stop taking it out on me and ruining my night."

"Because I am a-" and then she said it and he spread out his hands and gave a nod of his head with pursed lips as if laying out what she said in agreeance. "Exactly. It damn well hurts and I would rather wallow in self pity," they'd been married for nearly two years (or three--he was terrible), she should have caught on to that. "Not pretend like I had a good day!"

"Then don't go! Bloody woman!" Bryce nearly bellowed back. If she wanted to go she should damn well go--if she didn't she shouldn't; but he wasn't molding his plans to meet hers.

"Tear my damn hair out just listening to you." He grumbled before leaning back on his arms, letting his head drop to rest somewhat on his chest as he closed his eyes. After a moment he flopped back on the mattress, moving his hands up to rub his face, scrubbing for a moment before sliding them down over his cheeks, pulling the skin taut as his hands moved giving him a funny face before he just rested his palms on his cheeks looking up at the ceiling forlorn.

"You're ruining your own night. You can do whatever you want--I'm not a part of that." His voice muttered even as he didn't look over at her.

"You're admitting to being a- what the fuck. It's a bruise, take a damn potion and get over it! Let's just go out and forget about your bad day- I'm not asking you to pretend to have a good one!" Why was that so fucking difficult to understand?! In her anger she picked up a shirt that was slung across the foot of the bed and pulled it on- not wanting to be fighting when she wasn't dressed- it just felt weird.

"Don't call me that!" she yelled back, matching him for volume and ferocity. Annalisa clenched her jaw, never admitting how his snide little comments like that affected her. "Then stop listening. It's what you bleeding do best. Big surprise it's another night all about Bryce." It wasn't exactly fair, there were plenty of nights all about her, she knew, but she was pissed and he was acting like a baby. While she went on she picked up her clothes angrily, not bothering with bottoms just yet.

She ignored the way that he played with his face, angry, frustrated, and disappointed. When he spoke up again she nearly growled at him. "No Bryce, you're ruining my night!" she said firmly but as he went on she lost her temper, snapping again. "You're my husband! How are you not a part of that! God I don't know why I even married you you're such a goddammed bore anymore!" As if an extension of her anger the clothes she had in her hands were launched at him, scattering about the room once again.

"Yes you are! I'm not allowed to have a bad day! Not if Queenie doesn't say so! My emotions don't fit into what you want them to sweetheart, sorry." The last word was snapped; though most used it as an offered up apology, his was more sarcasm and a sense of rudeness that he found better suited to his needs for the word most of the time.

"Maybe I should! I hear enough complaining at work!" He nearly spit the words out the side of his mouth, turning his head toward her but his eyes were not focused on her. "And it's about time I get my own damn night. It's been nothing but 'Anna- Anna- Anna'" he was being high-pitched and snide as he said her name, raising up on his elbows to make a rude facial gesture as he did so, "since the upcoming season! I'm fucking tired alright? I'm allowed to be tired!"

When the clothes hit his face, his eyes closed and he for a millimeter of a second to calm himself down before he just gave up and pulled the damn things off of him and threw them to the floor. Standing up he moved to her to push at her with his index finger to her shoulder, getting in her face. "You should talk." He said curtly, "the one that would rather be on the pitch then at home!" Not that he was really ever home either... "This isn't a marriage, its you're little throne and how much you can pull over me."

"Oh like my opinion could ever possibly sway what you wanted! Not Bryce Derrik, he's too busy looking out for number one to give a flying fuck what his wife wants!" She wasn't yelling nearly as loud as she did normally but her displeasure was clear. Why did it always have to be this way? Always fighting.

Annalisa through her hands up, turning back to the rest of the room and grabbing a pair of shorts to tug on. "That's just the thing Bryce! The season is starting back up! We won't even have a chance to go out! I'll have to be training!" Not that he cared. She remembered a time when he was happy she played pro, now all it was was bitching about the tabloids and her schedule. "No, you're not tired, you're whining about a little bruise, you poor poor little man," she said mockingly, turning back to him and making faces as if speaking to a baby.

"Don't-" she pushed him away from her, "poke," another push, despite their ridiculous size difference, "me." Annalisa snorted and rolled her eyes. "What is there to be home for? You're always at the fucking office." Despite pushing him, she got in his face, closing any gap between them. "Oh things would run a hell of a lot differently if this was my throne baby, don't kid yourself."

The snort that came from his nose was rude and loud and his arms crossed with the sound, eyes rolling. Outwardly he couldn't deny that there were times that he did only think about himself, and made decisions only worrying about the effects on him--but considering his family it was only to be expected and he did, on occasion, think of her. Actually, more then on occasion, but he wasn't going to bother arguing--it meant admitting his selfishness the other times in comparisons to the selfless ones.

"Well enjoy yourself there! Surrounded by all those half-naked men! I'm sure you're all having a jolly old time in the locker room!" Bryce's voice edged up in volume and frustration, he knew the tabloids were bullshit; it didn't change the fact he hated reading about his wife getting her rocks off with the whole of her team. "If I'm not manly enough I am sure Wood or Montague would be happy to help!" The words were spit and he wanted to push at her though didn't.

Or didn't until she was pushing at him and his arms rolled in between her pushes to not truly push back, but to hold her shoulders at arms length so she couldn't get closer unless he let her.

He was a sucker for letting her.

"Maybe I'd come home more often if I knew you'd be here!" There was almost a growl in his throat as he said it; deep down he knew he would just stay at the office--work was too important to him, but it was a good excuse to fall back on, knowing she'd never come home and neither would he- they could just keep blaming each other and never have to change anything.

With another snort, his arms recrossed, slipping between them as if a small barrier as he once more rolled his eyes, an apparent signature move for him. "Right. Like what? We'd have more 'earthy' tones in the kitchen?" The words were as snide as his tone; trying to minimize her meaning, insult her statement.
