Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Michelle Moon and Open
What: Pre-Season organization!
When: Tuesday, 1 September 2004 - late afternoon
Where: Shelly's office, Medical Area - Puddlemere Pitch
Why: Because the season is starting soon and medical records need to be reviewed. (Does anyone want to drag her from her office?)
Status: Open, incomplete

She certainly hadn't expected to be here this late, but when your assistants filed the wrong medical file under the names of other people and it took a good three hours and wracking your memory to fix it, there was no real time limit. With the season starting soon, it meant that the grind would soon start. Injuries, concussions, family members yelling, players wanting an easy fix... She loved her job. She really did.

Her desk was covered in files. She had over half of them done and everything was in ordre. She needed to get people in for their physicals. Some players had already done it, reports had been sent to the coaches and thus far everyone had passed. But the pile in the drawer weren't done yet.

She took some notes - muggle music playing in the background (something with a good beat). She knew that soon she would have to call it a night. She was starting to get hungry after all... Lunch had been some hours ago... had she really been at this that long?

She'd left the office door open and waved at a few people who passed by - technitians. Everyone was getting ready. She opened her planner and made a few notes. She needed to scheduel a few more physicals yet.

And so it began. Once again, at the bottom, having to prove himself as something, and not just getting by on his father's name. Granted, he really wasn't impressed with his father's name at the moment. Not that anyone else really knew that. Or cared. Starting Seeker, Puddlemere United. Yeah, no pressure at all.

Pausing at the door, he waited silently, listening to... something... being played. Sighing heavily, he knocked, glancing inside. "Draco Malfoy, bringing in my physical results," he said, holding up the folder from St Mungo's.

She looked up hearing a knock on the door - her hand moving to turn down the music. She left her door ajar when she was in. It was easier than getting a 'Doctor is In' sign and putting it on the door, although she had seen one of those in muggle London a few weeks earlier, while on a medical supply run. It didn't matter what you said, with the number of sprained fingers she got coming through her office - and with some of the players using her as their primary care mediwitch (which several did) - it did well to have tongue depressers on hand for makeshift splints when necessary.

She'd seen the lineup for the new season, and was actually rather pleased by some of the names on it, surprised by others, but it was strategically the best decision for the team.

Looking up she couldn't help but smile. He seemed to be rather out of place at that moment and she couldn't really blame him. "Come in Draco, I've been expecting you. Gina at the hospital flooed me and told me you had the file with you." She smiled gestering for him to come in and have a seat. She did her best to make the drab florescent lit office somewhat welcoming - both with the wall hanging with its warm colors and her own attitude. This area could be so... well it had a very sterile feeling to it. This wasn't a hospital, not really... only sort of. there was no reason that it should feel as such.

Some players preferred that she do the entire physical, others liked doing it at the hospital. The rule was that if anything was overlooked or needed to be done over if the initial one was done elsewhere that Michelle or a borrowed medic from the hospital (who was male thus no one felt uncomfortable) would do the rest here.

Draco had preferred the hospital, mainly as this was his first year as a starter, and he didn't really know any of the staff. Even though he was far from his former days of glory, impressions were still an important thing to him, and he'd wanted to make certain that nothing had been over looked.

Granted, he was slightly surprised at her addressing him so familiarly, as it wasn't something that he was used to from someone that wasn't 'one of his usual crowd', as they had been called.

He stepped inside, sitting in the indicated seat and handing the file over. "I believe everything is up to scratch," he said. "That was the impression that I got, at least."

"Sit down, relax." she smiled. "This shouldn't take too long. And thanks for bringing it with you. It takes forever getting it from the hospital unless someone brings it."

Taking the file she put it on her desk making a check mark in the planner to the left of the desk before opening up the file and glancing through it. She spoke as she did. "So are you excited?" She ckecked a few things off the list she had of what was needed for the physical. Gina was generally good when it came to checking that everything was, but she wanted to be certain. Call her a stickler but she had higher standards. And for that her players were healthier for it. "I've got to tell you that we're all really looking forward to this season." she usually made casual conversation.

She saw that they'd done the bloodwork, lung tests, everything seemed to be in order, but there were several things she wanted to do herself. Simple things, she always did: check the eyes, throat, and the reflex test. "It's not quite Hogwarts but its up there." she was being cute. Everyone knew it anyone who came to see her. She'd been the mediwitch for more than two and a half years and now that there were rarely any comments about her 'sleeping' or 'using family connections' to get the job, she got on with most of the staff. She viewed the staff and players as a cohesive unit. They were a family of sorts. She really did collect family.

"Not a problem," Draco said. He hadn't known of the difficulties in getting them transferred, he'd just wanted everything expedited. "Excited?" Once again the new person on the team, having to prove himself. Do good and he was a welcomed member, perform badly, and... well, everyone knew what happened then. Plus the fact of him still fighting against his past? Oh yeah, excited hardly covered it. Not that he said so, of course.

Hogwarts. Funny, but that was no longer a happy place like it used to be. "Nothing really is," he said rather vaguely. "At least the seats are more comfortable."

She glanced up from the chart and saw the look on his face. "Relax. With the way you've always played?" she started. "This will be a piece of cake. So long as Harry doesn't get signed in the next few days," she smirked. "Of course the two of you in an arial battle for the snitch like old times would be a brilliant. Really give the fans what they want," she shook her head reviewing the file again.

"Alright so everything looks normal. No problems with vision, uncomfortability of any sort... nothing out of the ordinary?" She was a professional after all. "I have to ask these questions, Draco." she confided. "I have no doubt that nothing is wrong."

She made a few notes on the file. "The seats are more comfortable and the stakes are bigger, but in all actuality?" She looked at him with a gentle smile. "I have to be here for every game? It doesnt matter. It's like being back at the pitch." A lot of people of their age didn't really discuss hogwarts anymore. But after everything that had happened... especially the questioning and ... other techniques at the hands of the inquisitorial squad... talking about bad things, just vague mentions of them had become a way of showing she was okay. She hadn't even meant it as such this time, but still... Everyone had a past. There were some she was never going to forgive... ever. Specifically those who had left the scars down her torso... but others? Well people could change. And did every day.

Yes, Draco was quite certain that the fans would enjoy such a show, though the question remained, given his family's standing, how many of those fans would be cheering for him? "Guess we shall have to see, won't we?"

"Nothing that I'm aware of," he said, shaking his head.

"The Pitch has a way of changing things like that," he said. He was fairly certain that once he was on a broom and in the air, whatever personal demons he was fighting and his past would be pushed aside, and he could be completely focused on one thing. Getting the snitch before the other Seeker did. Something that he was actually quite good at. Not that he would say so, but if he'd gotten the starting position for Puddlemere, that meant that someone believed in him. Which was actually a ray of hope.

"Not really," she said offhandedly. "Win or lose its all about the game. Winning is a plus but the fans would come even if the team doesn't win. Those diehard fans? It's all about the playing, the statistics, the possiblities." She checked a few things off on the form before looking up again. "Relax Draco, everything will be fine."

And she knew it to be. She knew the fans. She'd been among them for years, she'd been one of them for years and now she was with them at every game. "I've been out on that field. When no one is here? During practice? You stand on the sand and you look around, and you imagine all the seats filled? It's a very humbling experience. My first day? When I wasn't ducking accusations about how I'd gotten my job here? Just being here, this is it. This is the big leagues," she grinned.

She snapped the file shut and scribbled something on the front of it. "Well it looks like everything's on order here." She grinned. "You're all signed off to play."
