What a difference a song makes...

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Two songs. One scene.

The 513 goodbye sex of Brian and Justin aired with the Doves "Ambition" playing. The song is sad.. haunting... depressing. And yes, beautiful.

But that's not the original song chosen for the scene. The screener was released with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's "Love Burns," and was replaced simply because the show's creators decided they didn't want this iconic gay couple's last love scene in the series memorialized with a song with an obvious female pronoun ("now she's gone, love burns inside me"). And yet watching the scene with the original song is substantially different from the version with "Ambition." It's much less sad, much more passionate, much less aching, much more full of life and sex and vibrant suffering.

Tragically, the current version of InsaneJournal does not let us embed videos, but here it is:

513 screener with "Love Burns"

This is the version from the DVD, but it does have subtitles superimposed on it... I'm just including it for those who haven't watched the DVD version recently who'd like to compare:

513 with "Ambition"

I'd love to know if you agree with me that the two songs give a very different feeling to the same scene.
