I like well written, not too far fetched crackfic, so I've decided to read qaf_crackfic from go to woe (gradually, not all at once, obviously). Maybe this is a little presumptious of me given that I'm not even an Insane Journal user. And now I'm going to comment, which is even more presumptious. And this thread is almost a year old, so who's going to read my comment anyway. but just in case ...
I'm only up to chapter 4 of "Southern Sunshine" but I actually like it and am surprised about the negative comments on this page. It is reasonably well written, I don't mind the multitude of evil characters, Justin is totally OOC (which seems to be mandatory in crackfic anyway), and Brian is a little OOC, but it is good nevertheless. The characterisation is fine (even if OOC for Brian and Justin, everyone at least has a distinct character). At this stage I recommend SS.
IMHO - SS is certainly better written than a lot of other crackfic I've read lately. One which shall remain nameless concerns Brian and Justin in an alternative mental health institution. That should have been enough of a warning to me. I am prejudiced against alternative medicine admittedly, but the described situations had no credibility whatsoever. No one had what could be recognised as a genuine mental illness. They wore uniforms (? I can't believe that that still happens in RL). Patients are sometimes sedated and placed in solitary confinement (I know the padded cell still exists in RL, but I don't think the patients are placed in solitary confinement exactly - I understand things to be a little less draconian than that), etc. Brian and Justin were so OCC, they were barely distinguishable from one another. And there was much unecessary exposition (a common fanfiction problem). There was no need to include every QAF character, just for the sake of including them. Anyway enough of that.
