Serial!killer!mermaid!Brian
It was a dark day in our fandom when the classic story "Sweet Dreams," known more commonly as "Serial!killer!mermaid!Brian," was removed from the Internetz by its author, Angel.

Someone has taken pity on our darkness, however, and made this fic available to the QAF community once again.

For those who are new, please understand that this story has inspired more meta, commentary, artwork, and icons than perhaps any other single work in history. One of those graphics is in the banner for this very community; the others are posted below.

The story begins with this famous line:

Once upon a time, a beautiful mermaid named Brian, lived all alone in the ocean.

No, that's not an error in reproduction. Brian is, indeed, a mermaid in this story.

A mermaid, moreover, who doesn't operate at the highest ethical levels, and who would definitely never make it into a Disney flick:

Every night, he would sing loud enough so very pretty boys would come close to him, and be amazed by his beauty. And when the boy would come close enough, Brian would fuck him all night. Then, he would kill him and throw him in the sea. He had lived a miserable life, growing in a horrible family, mistreated by his parents. He was unable to love someone, that’s why he killed them. Until the day he would fall in love and be loved in return, he vowed to himself that he’d kill every boy he’d ever fuck.

I mean, who wouldn't want a hero like that in their fic?

I'm not going to spoil it for you; you have to read the rest, but only on the condition that you return here and share your thoughts and feelings after you do so. Please consider it your contribution to the ongoing body of work of our fandom's collective history and culture. Go read now, but you must, must return. Because, dear fans, it's true: there is more.

Now that you've read "Sweet Dreams," I refer you to an earlier discussion of the story, in which a speculative narrative of events likely to follow the story's beautiful and romantical conclusion was developed, with, of course, illustrations.

First was a discussion of exactly how and with what mermaid!Brian fucked Justin, and if and how Justin could demonstrate his considerable blow job prowess underwater.

Fortunately the author had established in her canon that Brian taught Justin to breathe underwater, so one would assume he had some kind of gills, and was thus able to suck mermaid!Brian's dick with even greater facility than in the television show's canon.

Brian's cock, it was deduced, probably is kept inside his finned tail, and pops out when needed, which is, of course, most of the time.

Those conclusions inspired [info]flashfly to create this graphic illustration of the phenomena in question:

Speculation then turned, naturally, to a sequel. [info]flashfly once again came through, identifying the unquestionable next step in the evolution of their relationship in the post-serial!killer seas.

Mermaid!Brian and mermaid!Justin have merbabies:

First, the birth, captured by mermaid!Brian and witnessed by, as you can see, a traumatized starfish:

Next, we meet the merbabies:

Please note that Brine, with his mix of brown and blond hair and one blue eye, one hazel eye, is the perfect genetic combination of his parents, and thus, everyone's favorite merbaby.

[info]not_yet_defined took [info]flashfly's magnificent art and turned it into a series of beautiful icons, including, of course, one of Brine:

This concludes this important recap of a fandom treasure that will now delight generations of Queer as Folk enthusiasts to come. Don't forget your promise to share your thoughts on "Sweet Dreams," particularly her characterization of mermaid!Brian, which I'm sure you will admit is unique, nearly rivaling his canonical presence in its power and complexity.

And the whole Brian not killing Justin thing is too romantical for words.

I'm sure that I have nothing of substance to add to this post, seeing as how I'm stunned yet again by the beauty that is this fic. However, I never pass up an opportunity to use the most brilliant illustrative icon in the history of ever.

Brian's characterization is very unique. I've never heard of anyone that is "eternality young and beautiful." Sadly, my dictionary doesn't give me a definition for "eternality," but I'm sure it's a wonderful thing.

And overall, the author's stunning, lyrical, flowing phrasing makes this well-worth the three minutes I just took to read it. Thank god it's short, I don't think I deserved any more than that.

Maybe in a sequel to the sequel we could see evil!mer!Mikey try to kidnap the merbabies by using his shrill whining (see Darryl Hannah in 'Splash' for example)!

Although I guess we can't have an evil!mer!Mikey if mer!Brian lives all alone in the Ocean. It's too bad the author restricted the story this way otherwise there could be a mer!disco with mer!go-go boys and mer!tricks.

This story is amazing. I've never read a serialkillermermaid!Brian that was more IC! And Justin ability to see the ocean from his talk in the forest is nothing short of inspirational!

I just have one tiny piece of concrit. At one point Justin's beautiful shimming hair is long and another time it's longish. So a teeny continuity thing, but other than that it is indeed the perfect story!

I've never, EVER read anything like it!

I have never read anything quite like it, I am stunned.

I do however have one question:

"He jumped in the water, and disappeared in the deep end."

Where exactly is the deep end of the ocean? I mean as opposed to the shallow end? Are there signs posted to warn unsuspecting shimming blondes and Serial!killer!mermaid!Brian's?

Oh and btw, where can I find the Brine icon, I think I'm in love.....just sayin.

Cannot.Stop.Hysterical.Laughter.

*wipes tears from eyes*

Now, how in the world am I supposed to host my World Cup Soccer party today? I mean really, every five minutes the image of Mermaid!Justin giving birth is going to literally swim around my brain, causing me to collapse into yet another round of hysterical giggling. My cat has already left the room in a huff.

And, not to mention that, like the film "Jaws" did for about a year, you may very well have ruined swimming in the ocean for me. I will always be on the lookout for my now-fave mermaids instead of enjoying the natural beauty in front of me.

You are a bad, bad person.
