lol...well, it seems like a good reason to me. Let me see if I can explain it.
Jule mentioned up there that fandom fills a void...and Queer as Folk certainly did that for me...at the time I got into the show, I didn't even realize that I *needed* to do that, but apparently I did. Brian and Justin quickly became a HUGE part of my world, especially after I started drabbling/writing about the show. And in making them a part of *my* world, they became very specific and their lives planned out completely...like many fans, I have my own Brian/Justin Queer as Folk universe and reading just any fiction from other authors doesn't work for me. I need *MY* Brian and Justin and reading through a lot of stuff that fits another writer's world has become very unsatisfying.
I still have some old favs...especially AU favorites, full of angst and ust and all those things I've always enjoyed about QaF, but anything that I've read in several months now just doesn't do the trick for me.
Harry Potter, well, really Draco Malfoy if I'm being honest with myself, is totally different. I haven't created a world for them and I don't really want to (so I guess that means I don't NEED to ?!?!) so it's much easier to read all sorts of characterizations in so many different kinds of stories in the HP fandom. I love, love, love Draco Malfoy and am "attracted" (I can't think of a better word, but I'm sure there's one out there) to him in a way I never was to even Brian Kinney. Brian never worked for me without Justin and the dynamics of their relationship, in conjunction with their relationships with all the other characters on the show, is what thrilled me the most about Queer as Folk. But in HP fanfic, I can find all kinds of Dracos and it doesn't matter so much to me that he fits a certain characterization...so I read lots of Draco stories.
*crosses fingers and hopes that makes some sort of sense*
