teacher.fic The teacher/student aspect of this story has always bothered me. In fact I think I avoided reading it for awhile for just that reason. But every time I read it again I remember that the author did an amazing job of not making that aspect of their relationship too creepy. I don't know how she did it honestly because I think for me it is a very fine line and she walked it perfectly.
I think one of the ways Anton draws us in is through the use of humor: The rest of the class is a game in getting Mister Taylor's attention, and whenever he does, Brian makes a move for the teacher's benefit alone. A hand on his crotch, the tip of his tongue peaking out from the side of an open mouth, grabbing his index and middle finger with the fist of his other hand suggestively. By the end of the class time, Mister Taylor has relegated himself to standing behind the podium and not moving."
How can you not enjoy that? How totally believable Brian's actions are for a 17-year-old Brian! And poor Justin, knowing how inappropriate his response is but unable to control that response. It's funny, just plain, old laugh-out-loud funny, and there are plenty more moments like this in the text. Later on, as the story gets grimmer, these moments get fewer but by that time we're on board, 100%.
I do think the author captured who Brian and Justin would be in this alternate universe...
Agreed.
I'm heartbroken to hear that this story is coming down... what is that all about? AND how can we stop it?
Alas, AOL in its infinite wisdom, is shutting down AOL Hometown. For instance gaedhal's work will also be vanishing, as will any other writers' whose works are on that site. I don't think there's anything any of us can do about it, alas.
I'm hoping to stop back later and say more when I have more time!
Pul-lease, she said, hardly whining at all. FanSee
